1918 Local Post Stamps - OrtspostmarkenItalian stamps with colored overprints prepared during the Austrian occupation. The cities involved were; Ampezzo, Auronzo, Cividale, Codroipo, Gemona, Latisana Longarone, Maniago, Moggio, Palmanova, Pieve di Cadore, S.Daniele S.Georgia , S.Pietro , Splimbergo, Tarcento, Tolmezzo, Udine These were not issued as the military personnel involved did not have "head office" approval and the Armistice to end WWI was signed at about the same time. They are listed in Austria Specialized Catalogs Auronzo & S. Pietro are the 2 with the highest CV so I am only including these as the same series repeats itself.

Nelson, I had not realized that there was already an existing thread for these gems, started by you no less, but thank you for re-posting them here, too. They are great!

Tirol 1919-21Lokalausgaben - local issues To control parcels destined for foreign countries, the export of which was closely regulated. The government ordered control in both postal and rail transportation. The small stamps were to be for postal parcels and large stamps for railway parcels. Used specimens can be found.

East Tirol - Osttirol1920, Oct. 16. Private propaganda stamps (essays). In black and gold overprint. Found with errors - "Hau" instead of "Gau" (example below) and "Teutscher" Instead of "Deutscher" Note the granite paper. [Images removed by deleted member]

Issued during the period of Austrian occupation in 1918. Following the occupation of South Tyrol by the Italian armies late in 1918, the postal service was suspended and the Chamber of Commerce of Meran was authorized to establish a local post. This is the 2nd of 2 series [Images removed by deleted member] The values above were to be used for newspapers, postcards and letters respectively

LEITMERITZ
According to an article in The Philatelist, there are three printings of these stamps. A first one, possibly "genuine", but suppressed by the authorities. A second printing, certainly a forgery, which could have been made by the Spiro Brothers. Finally, a third printing, attributed to another famous forger, S.Allan Taylor from Boston. This may well be wrong as Taylor gets attributed wrongly in many cases. S. Friedl is more likely the forger. These stamps were apparently prepared by Dr. Elb of Dresden, but never used. Nonetheless, they are varied, well designed and interesting. [Images removed by deleted member] The first series was printed in 5 values of 11 different colours resulting in 55 different varieties.
The Lion stamps were printed in 10 values from 1Kr to 50Kr which seems unusually high for local postage rates
J.B. Moens makes first note of these being introduced to him by a E. Zawadski in the Oct. 1867 issue of his "Le Timbre Poste" - an excellent journal and catalog on the early history of stamps Monsieur J.-B. 11 y a : 5, 10, 15, 25et 50 kreuzer. Edm. Zawadzki.
Moens notes in the next issue that the apparent owner E, Hofer has sent him more examples and claims the company is handling local mail but he cannot offer any concrete proof. Moens then suggests that these are nothing more than bogus stamps issued for collectors only.
In the 1886 issue he notes that Sigmund Friedl a well known dealer and forger made copies.
