Here's the image side of the post card whose Columbia Rectilinear machine cancel (I learn sooooo much here!) I posted on the US machine cancel thread the other day.
This is not a philatelic question. I'm just wondering what the letters above the Armory door stand for. Appears to read N.G.S.N.V. Armory. Can anyone enlighten a poor Canadian boy?

You may already know this but an Armory is a US National Guard headquarters/operational center. The first two letters no doubt stand for natinal guard. The third could be supply or service perhaps.

I believe that N.G.S.N.Y stands for National Guard of the State of New York.

Thanks all for the responses. But I do have to say, on the card it really does look like a V and not a Y, though I know Y would make more sense. There's Y directly below it (armorY) and they look very different.

James, a GIS for "elmira armory" brings up a lot of postcards of this building. On some of the postcards is written "N.G.S.N.Y. Armory." A couple of examples below.
