Mac & Stoltz: I'd love to see pics of the binders that both of you have. It'd be interesting to see how they changed over time.

Mac. As you mentioned might be the case, your 1960 Alaouites page is identical to my 1930 page, as is the first Austria page. I wonder about Abyssinia, however. Mine asserts in the subcaption "on sale from August 17 to 25, 1992 (sic)." Was that typo corrected in your later edition? Did they change the country name to Ethiopia?

Someone mentioned cropping ? it is always best to crop as much of the unwanted borders as possible when scanning.. The stamps will show up much better and the posts/thread will look much more interesting and colourful. Too much white [or black] tends to give an overall appearance of waste paper [for want of a better phrase ! ]. Try it and you will see the difference. Londonbus1

Here are two photos of my The International Air Post Album (NY, NY: Scott Stamp & Coin Co., Ltd., 1930), as requested by Dave (Philatarium). I’d be interested in learning of comparisons that you, Dave, or anyone else makes regarding how these albums have evolved over the years. The 1930 edition, which I believe is the first in the series, is hardbound in maroon cotton buckram with the title and publisher’s name embossed in gold on the spine. There is no other cover decoration. The album measures 9 ½ by 11 ¾ inches. Pages are as follows: Flyleaf Free end paper Title page with copyright on the verso Album pages, unnumbered, beginning with United States followed by Abyssinia to Venezuela Six blank pages titled “Covers” Three blank pages titled “Semi-Official Air Post Stamps” Four pages of Scott Advertisements Free end paper Flyleaf All pages are printed on the recto side only, except the title page. Sorry the pics are not better.

Thanks very much for this! I don't formally study this, but I am always fascinated by how stamp albums and binders evolve (or devolve) over the years. I'm always particularly amazed at what Scott (and, for that matter, White Ace) used to offer but is no longer available.

Although my collection is housed in G&K padded binders (Subway catalog #8200A), I do like to acquire the Scott International Air Post Album to see how they have laid out the stamps on the pages. I recently purchased a set of the 1955 edition. It came in 5 volumes, but was missing volume #2 . But, it only cost me $100. Anyhow, I've posted a picture so you can get an idea of how they look.
I also have the 1942 edition which came in a 2-volume blue, thin hardboard 2-post binders. I had to design a lot of pages from scratch as they were not published in the 1942 edition (for instance, no Latvia, Tannu Tuva or Colombia SCADTA included). I will be interested to see if some of the missing countries showed up in the later 1955 edition.
Cheers, Terry.
