I mistook this stamp for Scott #173 design A91 2sh6p light brown perf.11x12 engraved wmkd.34 Large Crown and GvR produced between 1913 and 1918, the height of the first World War. It's Scott #179 retouched printed in 1919. Thanks to Alanl for discovering the dot above the middle of the top frame. Nice circular date stamp, although a bit runny, from Southwell, Nottinghamshire, appears dated 2 Aug 21. Was the stamp cancelled three years after the #173 production ended ? Perhaps not since we now know that this retouched Bradbury #179, Wilkinson & Co. was printed in 1919. The back isn't perfect. More hinge gum than hinge, but ok for a century of neglect. The crown is visible below the hinge mark. Squint for the crown Thanks for viewing.

It`s not 173 it`s 179. Notice the dot in top margin near middle of stamp.

Nice call, Alan. It's the retouched Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co., 22 3/4mm. I missed the dot because I was too focused on the runny cancellation.

From Monsanto, bad for people and planet, to Thiokol, now Morton Thiokol, deadly for astronauts. Via Yankee Clipper.
