I highly recommend you all track down a copy of the December 2014 issue of Gibbons Stamp Monthly. In it is a very interesting article by Ian Jakes about Jamaica's contributions to fund raising in WWI and WWII using patriotic mail and labels. I bring it up because I recently acquired this example of a First World War label.
There are four versions of this label, which were created by the Jamaica War Stamp League. The group was raising funds for the British Red Cross, as well as the Jamaica Aeroplane Fund and a fund for Polish Jews. This version, the third, was issued on January 18 1916. The first version, with no overprint was issued December 1 1915. The second, with JAMAICA overprinted in red was issued December 22 1915, and the fourth was issued with the black JAMAICA overprint as well as HALF-PENNY overprinted in black.
