I have been collecting stamps since 5, or, 6 years old and that was 50 years ago, with interruptions of military service in the Air Force from 1980-1989. My interests are worldwide pre-1940 and an emphasis on U.S., Canada BNA, Ireland, Great Britain and Commonwealth, South America. I have also more recently started a collection of old stamp albums with several 19th century including an 1863 Appleton in amazing condition considering the age, an unused Scott Ne Plus Ultra Volume 2 set of 4 and multiple Scott Browns. I actually stumbled upon this site while searching for albums and came across a thread about old albums.

Welcome aboard Fillerupman!
I too was in The Air Force (1981 to 2001. I also like pre 1940 stamps - prefer engraved works of art on stamps! But, I don't do World Wide complete, just W/W Airmail and do go up to 1950 or so.

fillerupman, always great to have another worldwide collector on board, especially one who is fond of the Scott Internationals.
Did your Appleton have any stamps in it?

Ditto all that others have said. Early WW is certainly my interest, too.

How did you download your scan of your 19th Century Album?

I am still trying to figure out how to post a picture from my computer. How did you download your scan of your 19th Century Album? You need to first upload your image to a host such as Photobucket and then insert the link to the image into your post. This thread explains the process.

Lovely! Were those Scott Ne Plus Ultra 20th century albums a type of "Browns", as far as content?

Yes, as far as content? I have four copies of the 1920-1929 Scott Browns. Two of them with the tabs after every 8 pages. Depending on the copyright date, there are variations in the layout and design of the pages. The Scott Ne Plus Ultra's were printed on heavy paper one side only, so, the four volumes you see encompass the equivalent of a little less than half of the 1920-1929 Scott Brown. The pages are also linen hinged in 3 of the volumes to allow the pages to lay flat. One of the volumes the pages are ribbed to allow the pages to lay flat. I am assuming that these are a later version. I will try to post some comparison photos between my Scott Browns and the Ne Plus Ultra.

... I will try to post some comparison photos between my Scott Browns and the Ne Plus Ultra. Substantive material posted in these introductory threads tends to get lost over time. To facilitate future searches, I recommend that you post the comparison photos and related information in the thread that you started on the Ne Plus Ultra in the General Discussion board.
