Osney Island QV Cinderella LabelsI was playing around with some stamp images that I think I got from daniel , and I ended up creating some new Cinderellas. Osney Island is the name of the small community where I live in Oxford, and I thought to myself, "What island doesn't need a stamp?" The result of this Quixotic thinking is what you see below. I haven't tried printing these yet, but if I do, some of you may start seeing them on envelopes that I send to you.....

Hey, Joan ( cursus), since you are the first to offer a supportive comment, you are at the top of the list! I haven't yet tried to print these out, but I may try some experiments today. One thing I have learned in printing my own labels (COGH triangles) is that what looks best as an electronic image doesn't necessarily work the best for printing. Some colors, despite looking perfect on the screen, tend to bleed and produce a label that looks as if it were over-inked, and the detail gets lost. On the COGH triangle labels, the green and red colors seemed especially prone to this. In those cases, I use the software to lighten the image for printing, which then brings the detail out. This has been a learning process for me, but I have had a lot of fun playing around with making these labels from time to time.

My late dad, the printer-publisher-newspaper owner would be happy and would have given free advice (at the time) René btw, the latest are beautiful

Sorry for the above repetition. I wish to add, that, myself, have a family link to the printing world: my late father sold accountancy books, agendas, notebooks and alike. Thus having a close link to this industry, which was very important on Barcelona's XXth century. I remember, visiting my father's employer's factory in Barcelona as well as his customers. An uncle by-marriage of mine, belonged to an old Barcelona printers family. I can still recall the smell of fresh ink. I'm sure than René, can too.
Later, on the philatelic world, one of my best friends was a printer, who issued many magazines, items and journals of our hobby, as well as some cinderellas (mainly, on the 1990's). He had a wonderful Olympic stamps collection.

I know one could make Cinderellas using repurposed -self-adhesive labels but what if someone had old style perforated sheet stock.

I just wanted to let you know that I finally printed some of the Osney Island QV cinderellas. I had to make some adjustments to optimize for printing. As it happens, the files that look best in a digital image, do not necessarily make the best printed images. I am still learning, but hopefully you will find these worth having. As promised, you are getting some from the first printing on good paper, including some uncut strips. But you may see that a few single examples of these found their way onto the envelopes recently sent to other members. Those are mainly cut-outs, as there were a few problems initially, and I had to discard more than I would have liked. But never fear, as a nice selection will be headed your way very soon!

Thank you very much, Chris for your kindness.
We should organise a gathering of the "Euro-Israelian chapter of TSF" in Barcelona next Spring or Summer 2022. I look forward to meet you in person.

Another Osney Island QV CinderellaThanks to Joan ( cursus) for your post.... yes, I agree that a Euro-Israeli TSF Meeting would be great! If Michael ( Londonbus1) will be there, then I will need to bring some port! All right, so I have been playing around with more images that I have found on the Forum, and I have now created this: Those who are learned in the details of Chalon designs, like DK, gc, skid, murfz1, and others, will notice features lifted from different issues, combined with a couple of touches of my own. Overall, I am happy with the concept, at least as an electronic image. I still need to decide if I will attempt to print these out, and if I do, how that will go. Anyway, it's just been fun playing around with the design elements, and I needed a break from other things.

Thanks, Darrin!

Thanks for your comments, Darrin ( darkormex ), and I am happy to think that others may appreciate what I have been doing. Question from René ( renden ): It's an excellent question, René! I note that one of the dictionary definitions of chore is: "a tedious, but necessary task". I understand that meaning, but it doesn't really apply to my creation of Cinderella labels, because for some odd reason, I find it to be fun! That said, it is true that to do a nice job on these takes some time. In most cases, I have spent hours putting the designs together. I freely admit that my designs are not original. I have taken elements from different stamps, both postal and Cinderella, and I have combined them in bits and pieces, and then added my own touches to suit my taste or particular purpose. I use MS PowerPoint to put the images together. The original Osney Island labels I did using the QV Postal Order design were pretty simple. Subsequent examples have taken a bit more effort to pull together, but I do enjoy the creative process. As a sidenote, I also use MS PowerPoint for putting together the composite images that I often put into my TSF Newsletter articles. Below is another example of an Osney Island label that I designed on PowerPoint, but I never printed it until recently. Michael ( Londonbus1 ) got the first printed examples of these. Osney Island QV Cinderella Local Post Triangle Label One of the reasons I decided to do this particular design is because the image of Queen Victoria rarely appears on a triangle stamp or label, so I thought this would be distinctive.

A big "Thank You" to Chris Beryllium Guy - for his response to my "probably" stupid or "ignorant" use of he English dictionary - LOL !! He knows that I am a french-canadian and work mostly in french so in my head I will use an english word which sounds O.K......like chore
Your explanation was appreciated - as you know, no intention of printing a "Cinderella" - though I appreciate the work involved - and when you do something which brings satisfaction/joy - Bravo !! Thanks a bunch, Chris and keep them coming - I collect your "works of art" !! René

René ( renden ), I don't think that there is anything wrong with your use of the word "chore" in this case. I just wanted to be clear for everyone that as the definition indicates "tedious", it normally means things that we need to do, but that we don't enjoy. Designing the Osney Cinderellas has taken up my time, for sure, but since I enjoy it, I will probably continue to do it, when time permits.

Thanks for posting that cover, Joan ( cursus)! I had a great deal of fun from 2019-2022 creating those DIY Cinderellas for Osney Island, where I was living at the time. This item should probably be considered as one of my last new creations using Osney Island as the location. Now that I am back in California, I am thinking about some new designs that will feature local themes here. I was also thinking about trying to do something to connect Barcelona and Los Angeles.... perhaps something connected to their roles as summer Olympic Games host cities in 1992 and 1984, respectively? I am looking for ideas, and I am feeling inspired by my latest visit to Barcelona!
