There have been lots of posts and threads about post offices, not just here in Canada, who seem to be falling down on the job. Marker monkeys. Non cancelled stamps. Etc, etc. Here's a new one I thought I'd share. Received an ebay purchase in the mail today, and this is the envelope it came in. [BROKEN IMAGE LINK(S) REMOVED] Addresses have been covered to protect the innocent. So what we are looking at here is a 1986 FDC , complete with official Canada Post first day of issue cancel, with extra postage to make up the 85ยข domestic postal rate. Sooooo, Canada Post allowed through an already used and cancelled cover, which they themselves cancelled 30 years ago (though I'm sure it's not the same postal clerk on duty!) I'm not sure to be amazed, appalled, or what! Obviously no one at the post office is looking at these things. And I kinda have to give the ebay seller a nod, but do I do that for his gumption in sticking it to the Man, or for risking my purchase with insufficient postage? I don't collect new material, but this may have to go in the album with a bit of a note. Possibly it was just a bit of a delay. Postmarked April 14, 1986, delivered June 15, 2016.

James that seller almost exclusively uses first day covers as postage. I've had more than a few pass this way. In your opinion does that ruin the cover or add a bit of interest? I don't exactly ever know what to do with them so usually pass them on to others.

Mr Frog, I've purchased from him before on a number of occasions (he's got some great postal history material!) but this is the first FDC I've received from him. I don't think it ruins the cover, but does make it more interesting. Personally I have no interest in first day covers because of their philatelic origins. Just not my thing. So it does give them a new twist. I'm just amazed they get through!

That's hilarious! I never thought to be so bold as to try using an FDC for real mail. Although there are some postcards I sent from Europe that will be very interesting if they make it home.
