All too often covers arrive emptied of their contents. What a shame. There was this one lot I came across some time back that was the exception to the rule. Included were a few dozen letters posted to Frederica Mesmer. There were no letters from Miss Mesmer but rather letters to her. In the letter Fred Mesmer (Frederica's brother) mentioned a tennis match he'd been involved in while a student at Georgetown University. Fred Mesmer was a two sport athlete in tennis and basketball and later spent seven years as Georgetown's head basketball coach and was named to the inaugural class of the Georgetown University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1958. The link to the bio below is from Georgetown basketball's Top 100 basketball players. Short Bio of Fred Mesmer
Fred goes on to write about a night out at the Lowe's Palace theater and included the program from his night out. A photograph of the Lowe's Palace at about the time Fred would have visited. A photograph possibly of Frederica Mesmer I located on ancestry.com There are many more letters to Frederica (aka "Freddie") and from time to time I'll share a few more. Hope y'all enjoy!
