As mentioned in the shout box below, I went to the Maresch auction house's first of four sessions last night. My wife gave me some cash for my birthday last weekend, after watching me paw over the catalogue for a couple of weeks. Took pity on me. I had some items in mind but was soundly beat on all of them. An phone bidder pushed me past my financial limit over a very simple, but I thought historic Niagara cover. My only consolation is he probably ended up paying far more than he'd hoped. I know it doesn't pay to be bitter, but sometimes it just feels good! Anyway, came away with these two as a consolation prize. [BROKEN IMAGE LINK(S) REMOVED] I'll research these more (the catalogue gives a great outline of the postage and such) and bore you with it later. Basically an 1855 stampless with Suspension Bridge NY cancel (the crossover point at Lewiston, on the US side of the Niagara River) and an 1877 with small queen and three interesting $3 bond or Debenture coupons glued to upper right corner. Google, here I come!

Not so happy the auction didn't fill out your collecting interests more but I must say that's some interesting looking covers to say the least. A bit of research on them would be a fun thing indeed.
I too must confess a morbid satisfaction with running up the cost on an item I don't actually win on bid myself. Yes, it's wrong... no it's not... we humans are horrible - except for stamp collectors... we have our postmarks together! LOL
