5th May (1927) France, Sc 113, 5-centime green, definitive stamp depicting a Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité design and France, Sc 143, 45-centime light violet, definitive stamp depicting La Semeuse Lignée (the "lined" Sower) postmarked on this date in the city of Amiens in 1927. The slogan postmark advertises: "AMIENS / FOIRE - EXPOSITION / 24 JUIN - 11 JUILLET" which means the Fair & Expo in Amiens from 24th June to 11th July. From Wikipedia: "Amiens is a city in northern France, divided by the Somme River. It is known for the Gothic Amiens Cathedral and nearby medieval belfry. Shops and cafes line the Quartier St.-Leu’s narrow streets. Floating market gardens ('hortillonnages') dot the city’s canals. The Musée de Picardie shows art and antiquities spanning centuries. Nearby, the Maison de Jules Verne is a museum where the science fiction author once lived. Population was 132,874 in 2015." Here is a 10pf Bavarian stamp of a farmer plowing his field, overprinted with Deutsches Reich, used 100 years ago today! What exactly is overprinted? There's an extra letter between the t & c of Deutsches. I'm not sure what it is. My 2011 Junior Michel doesn't state what it says, and of course Scott's is equally as terse. Scott (listed in Bavaria) #257 Michel #120

90 years ago today, someone in Mettlach, Saar posted a letter using a March 28, 1930 "Views of the Saar" stamp showing a colliery shafthead. Michel calls it a "landscape builder", but it definitely looks like it is a mine. It is even labelled a "pit shaft" on the stamp. In any case, it is a great 'socked-on-the-nose' cancel! It’s 8 May. Well, with me it always is (on the left).
The yellow 24 öre was for double-rate domestic postage. The shade reminds me of the first Netherlands William IIIs, and the American commemorative ‘Discovery of San Francisco Bay’ from 1913. It’s a wonderful color, even if it can be damn difficult to read.
My icon is struck with one of the half-dozen cancellers then in the Gävle post office. You can watch them deform over time. That must be proof of lunacy. So I do it. A tippo to Beryllium Guy for the nudge.

8th May (1973) United States, Sc 1499, 8-cent, carmine rose, black and blue commemorative stamp issued to honor the 33rd President of the US, Harry Truman. This image is cropped from a first day cover for this stamp, which was postmarked on this date in 1973 in Truman's hometown of Independence, Missouri. It also happens that Truman was born on this date in 1884. Added historical note: Interestingly, I just realized today that VE Day for WWII in 1945, happened on Truman's birthday, his first as President of the United States. Franklin Roosevelt had passed away on 12th April 1945, and less than a month later, VE Day happened on Truman's 61st birthday, which also happens to be my age now....

10th May (1881) Sweden, Sc O8 or O21, 24-öre yellow official stamp postmarked in Gävle (Gefle) on this date in 1881, 139 years ago today. Sc O8 is perf 14 and O21 is perf 13, but I do not have the stamp with me, so not able to check it at the moment. If anyone can tell the perf size from the scan, please let me know, and I will revise this post accordingly. Dedication: Today's post is made to Aaron ( kasvik ), our resident Gefle postmark expert. I am pleased that the date on this postmark in my collection serendipitously falls just after Aaron's post of his avatar postmark two days ago. So, Aaron, as this one is 19 years after yours (1881 versus 1862), can you see the tell-tale wear in the strike? Just curious to hear more about this level of detail since you have previously mentioned it. It is also an interesting coincidence that my example is also on a yellow stamp, similar in color to yours.

Just curious to hear more about this level of detail since you have previously mentioned it. It is also an interesting coincidence that my example is also on a yellow stamp, similar in color to yours. This is something amazing to wake to. My weekend routine; finish reading Saturday newspapers, scan Sunday news sites, admire the garden (extraordinary this this year), then TSF. And...
Beryllium Guy , how did you do this? it's even better; today 10 May is my birthday, coinciding this year with mothers day. It happened in San Francisco. They never told me, but since it was a Saturday, my father probably would have sped his bride from the island in Marin County across the bridge into town. So here's the bridge, albeit earlier, when under construction, on the Marin side.
As for the miraculous Gefle, I had to check Facet Postal! It's an Nst 16 cancel. It's funny how casual they were then. It's an official stamp, but even a presumbly-officious Swede just slopped it down inverted. People!

Happy birthday to kasvik ! What luck seeing a stamp cancelled on your birth date! I have yet to see one, but I keep looking! Here is the first of three I have for today. I separate them into different messages, unless they are related to each other.

12th May (1937) Aden, Sc 13-15, King George VI Coronation Day Commemorative stamps, British Commonwealth omnibus issue, postmarked on this date in Aden in 1937, 83 years ago today, which was the actual coronation date for the king. Per Wikipedia: "Aden ceased to be a Colony of the United Kingdom and became the capital of a new state known as the People's Republic of South Yemen which, in 1970, was renamed the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen." Dedication: Today's post is made in honour of former TSF member Clive ( Anping ), who was a specialist collector in Aden and Hong Kong. Today's image is cropped from a cover posted by Clive on another thread three years ago. On 10th May, Aaron ( kasvik ) said: The truth is, Aaron.... I had no idea! But I am so glad that my post happened on your birthday, and that Peter ( brightonpete ) could pile on 3 more postmarks to commemorate your day! I hope it was a great one, and that you enjoyed that Schnitzel! By the way, Schnitzel is actually Austrian, not German. Sorry.... just had to say it. Many happy returns!

13th May (1903) Straits Settlements, Sc 94, 3-cent violet and orange definitive stamp depicting King Edward VII, postmarked in this date in Singapore in 1903. The Straits Settlements were dissolved in 1946 when Singapore became its own Crown Colony. Note about the image: the blurry character of the stamp image is not an artifact of the scan. The stamp itself is blurred a bit, making me wonder if it may have been printed with water-soluble ink and subsequently impacted by soaking.

14th May (1880-1899) Greece, Sc 53, 5-lepta green on cream paper definitive stamp of Hermes (Mercury) head design, Scott Type A1, postmarked on this date in the late 1800s, probably in the capital city of Athens, which would be written AθHNAI in the CDS. Many thanks to Ryan for figuring that out (see next post)!

I have tried to figure out the town name, which appears as A---NAI or perhaps A---NAT, but I could not find a good fit using an alphabetical list. I think you have an Athens postmark. I snooped for a while looking for a postmark on a Hermes head which wasn't too sloppy but eventually gave up and chose to take a snip from an FDC offered by an eBay seller. Ryan
