Very nice examples, as always, anglobob ! Thanks for posting. I think that you have misread the date on the Turks & Caicos, though. It looks to me like the CDS says something like: A SEP 29 48 I am a little unsure about the second digit after the "2", but I am pretty confident that the top line is an "A" rather than a "4". Other opinions are welcome, of course! |

Canada "P" (85¢) stamp showing "Bones" aka Dr. Leonard McCoy played by DeForest Kelley (1920-1999) of the Original Series of Star Trek, first shown on TV back in the mid 60's. I remember watching that show. It was scary at times for me. But my favourite episode was called "The Trouble with Tribbles." It was a funny episode that had no scary parts in it for me!

Germany 20pf 900th anniversary of Speyer Cathedral, issued September 2, 1961 and posted at Köln. I noted the old-style postcode system which dates from the WWII era (the 22c seen at the top of the postmark) and was a bit surprised - I thought the 4-digit post code was in use by then, but according to German Wikipedia the 4-digit system wasn't put into place until March 23, 1962. So, it wasn't too much longer before you would no longer have seen that WWII style of postcode. The 4-digit code for Cologne was 5000, but that was abbreviated on postmarks as simply "5" for many years (they used to leave off trailing zeroes on those 4-digit postcodes but eventually started including them, so you can find postmarks with both "5" and "5000" as the postcode on Cologne postmarks). Germany 20pf President Heuss definitive, with the same style postmark dating to WWII. Thanks to Ryan for that info! Posted at Lubeck (24a), located NE of Hamburg near the coast. It is one of the major ports of Germany, on the river Trave.
