Germany 100pf (1m) Europa 1993, theme: Contemporary Art, issued May 5, 1993, Scott 1784.
This stamp features Josef Albers (1888-1976) painting "Homage to the Square" He favoured a very disciplined approach to composition, especially in the hundreds of paintings and prints that make up the series "Homage to the Square." In this rigorous series, begun in 1949, Albers explored chromatic interactions with nested squares. Usually painting on Masonite, he used a palette knife with oil colours and often recorded the colours he used on the back of his works. Each painting consists of either three or four squares of solid planes of colour nested within one another, in one of four different arrangements and in square formats ranging from 406×406 mm to 1.22×1.22m.

DE 18 '36 Canada Air Mail 1936 - From Harrington Harbour to Rimouski (Quebec Province) DE 19 ....to Toledo, Ohio USA 6 ¢ stamp AIR - Unitrade Canada Spec Cat. # C5 - issued in 1935 (June) Harrington Harbour is an unconstituted locality within the municipality of Côte-Nord-du-Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent in the Côte-Nord region of Quebec, Canada. Its population in the 2011 census was 261 and was about the same in 1936 - a fishing village of the St Lawrence Seaway, visited by Jacques Cartier , first European to describe and map the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. He was the first European man to see Prince Edward Island, the St. Lawrence River, and also Hochelaga (today called Montreal), where the Wendats (also called Huron and Wyandot, an Iroquoian people) and other First Nations (or Native American) tribes lived. In 1534 he reached Newfoundland and explored coast of Labrador.   |

DE23 94 (1894) COVERA Small Queen Canada stamp - UNITRADE cat 35i - on cover with a superb cancel of 1894 - Moncton, New Brunswick (my Province) 1 ¢ SQ - Yellow - Montreal printing (date: etc and info based on Richard Morris color tables and Hillson and Nixon, "Canada Postage Stamps of the SQ Era 1870-1897.)....and Unitrade Canada 2021 cat. 12X12 perf Circular date stamps were classified "Round types" . The majority in use in the SQ period were the single, broken-circle type - some double, broken-circle types were still in use in the 1870s and later in the 1880s. René ( renden), I just wanted to start by saying that I agree with Rob ( REL1948) about these recent classic covers you have been posting in this thread--they are really beautiful, and thank you for sharing them from your Dad's collection. He certainly had made some very nice acquisitions. I particularly like this latest one, with the Moncton CDS (circular date stamp). Looking at the back address, I imagine that James ( jamesw) will be interested, as he specifically collects Bank of Montreal items. Just one minor note about the DE 23 date on the CDS.... I think that it is actually DE 29. At first glance, and without magnification, the 9 does indeed look like a 3 because the top loop has just enough of a gap in it, and the number was struck right on top of the perforation teeth, resulting in uneven inking of the cancellation. But I think on closer inspection that it is a 9. Other opinions are welcome, of course.   |

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

25 December 1915 French Post Offices in Egypt. SG20 issued in 1902,with a Tresor et Postes 507 cancellation.This cancel was used on military mail during WW 1.  |
