23 July 1900 Austria SC 73,issued in 1899 and with a postmark from the small town of Korneuburg,Lower Austria. Insufficient postage was attached so there is also Switzerland SC J24 with a St Moritz cancellation.  |

July 23Three different U.S. stamps franked this cover postmarked by the American Philatelic Center's Contract Postal Unit (CPU) in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania on this date in 2020. The block of four 6 cent, perf. 11 John Wesley Powell stamps (Scott 1374), issued on August 1, 1969, marked the centennial of the start of his exploration of the Green and Colorado rivers from 1869 to 1875. The 13 cent, perf. 11 Eagle and Shield stamp(1596), part of the Americana issue, was issued in 1975. Lastly, the 18 cent, perf. 11 booklet stamp featuring a Bighorn Sheep (Scott 1880), part of the issue depicting American Wildlife, was issued May 14, 1981.

24 July 1908 Austria 10 heller printed letter card with a postmark from the small town of Herrndorf bei Rakonitz,now Knezevzs u Rakovnika in the Czech Republic.  24 July 1900 Austria SC73 issued in 1899.The postmark is from Semmering,a popular winter tourist destination in Lower Austria.  |

July 25Jerseyville is located in southwestern Illinois, about 20 miles north of St. Louis, Missouri. The Doremus Type E postmark was applied to this two cent, carmine stamped envelope (Scott U411) on this date in 1908.

26th July (1865 probably) Cape of Good Hope, SG5a, 1-penny rose red on white paper depicting the allegorical figure of "Hope" seated, with an anchor as a symbol of the colony, cancelled on this date in 1865, 157 years ago today. It could also be an SG5b deep rose red--the color shades are a bit subjective on these. Notes: Full disclosure: I don't own this stamp. COGH triangles with legible date stamps are few and far between in my experience, and this one is a relatively clear strike (except for the year), so consequently commands a pretty high price. It is also my understanding from what I have read that this type of CDS (Circular Date Stamp) is actually a fiscal cancel. CDS postmarks on Cape triangles are even more rare. The most commonly found cancels on these stamps were done with a triangular obliterator, which came in two sizes.
