August 16Postmarked on this date in 1917 - Hungary issued this 80 filler, green and pale green, perf. 14 stamp depicting the Parliament Building in Budapest in 1916 (Scott 121).

A nifty Pforzheim cancel, commemorating a millenium of Aschaffenburg, home to a wonderful palace. Curious place; very old and very arbitrary. The name goes back to 957--as commemorated here--but references go back to the Roman Empire. Technically in Bavaria, but so far north it might as well be Hessian. The stamp is a catalogued plate oddity with a broken letter N in the city seal.

25 August 1899 Austria SC 76,issued in 1899.Postmarked at Skotschau which was in Silesia.At the end of WW1,this became part of the new Polish republic and is now known as Skoczow.  25 August 1922 French Guinea YT69,issued in 1913.The postmark shows Knidia,instead of Kindia.  |

August 25As the cachet suggests, this is a First Day cover for the 6 cent, carmine, perf. 10 horizontally, rotary press coil air mail stamp issued in Washington, DC on this date in 1949 (Scott C41). The stamp's design, showing a DC-4 Skymaster, is the type used on the 5 cent air mail stamp issued March 26, 1947 (Scott C33).

Yay, it's my birthday and look at the gem I have in my collection! Checking Unitrade, it is number 30, a 15¢ grey Large Queen perf 12, issued in 1873, with a mighty fine cancel from Vancouver, BC. It's a rather late usage of this stamp, but it certainly appears to be 1893.
