June 7
This stampless folded letter with 32mm red "DETROIT MICH./JUN 7/3 PAID" CDS and manuscript "Paid" was sent by the law firm of Lothrop & Duffield to the Pontiac, Michigan law firm of Manning & Stelle on this date in 1852. From and after June 30, 1851, the single letter rate 1.2 ounce not exceeding 3,000 miles was 3 cents if prepaid and 5 cents if not prepaid. Steve, I'm 100% positive that this is your cancel but according to the 1997 American Stampless Cover Catalog:
Same/Mich.(1837-52;29;PAID,5[oval],Free,PAID/3[oval];Blue,Red)......30.00 pg. #198 on PDF file; Pg. #180 in the book www.uspcs.org/resource-center/electronic-library/

Jeff, The "/" in the listing you provided puts "Mich." at the bottom of the CDS. The listing also indicates that abbreviation for Michigan would be in lower case and end with a period and that the diameter of the CDS would be 29mm. The image in the catalog provides the appearance of that CDS: The ASCC listing for my SFL (also on p.180 of the book) is: Same MICH./3PAID(1851-54;32;Red)..................20.00

June 10th, 1994
Posted from Kharkov to Kiev. Another example from the post-1991 inflation period in Ukraine. The 7 kopeck Soviet PSE was initially uprated to 3krb (with the addition of the "Ukraine Post 2-93" numerator stamp), in order to cover the domestic letter rate of 3 karbovanetz applicable from January to June 1993. By June 1994 (as in the previous cover) the rate had gone up to 100 karbovanetz, so the uprated envelope is used as a blank and the proper rate is paid with a 100krb Ukraine stamp.

This 3c blue green, perf. 11x10.5 stamp (Scott 1091) was issued on this date in 1957 to commemorate the International Naval Review and the festival celebrating the 350th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, Virginia. The Postmaster General conducted the first day ceremony aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga (CV-60). This approximately 11 minute video provides background on the 1957 naval review and a brief glimpse of the PMG and first day ceremony (at about 7:50 minutes into the video). Also issued on this date in 1974 by the United Nations is this 18c multicolored, perf. 14 regular issue stamp (Scott 251). The stamp was designed by Henry Bencsath and printed by Heraclio Fournier, S.A., Spain.

June 13th, 1923
Notification of receipt postcard (converted POW card with “blank” and “zakaznoe”="registered" handstamps) from Moscow to Lesnoi Karamysh, Saratov province. The monetary equivalent of $20 was paid out and the card was returned registered on 29/6. Franked at the appropriate NOR rate of 8R (i.e registered letter rate) valid from 10/6 to 5/7. Notice that 100 rubles of 1922 (the overprinted Imperial Arms) corresponded to 1 ruble of 1923. Apparently, the NOR cards were ultimately returned to the senders abroad, here in the US: notice the “Aug. 20 Rec’d” handstamp on front.
Lesnoi Karamysh is in the Volga German area – on the back there is the handwritten inscription “ОБЛ.НЕМ.ПОВ.” (=Volga German oblast, in December 1923 the oblast, that had been created in 1918, was elevated into the "Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of the Volga Germans"). The postmark of Lesnoi Karamysh and the registration “З” label are of the old Imperial-period type. Soviet period postmarks were introduced around this time, bearing the indication of the area's status as a separate ethnic entity.

June 13This stampless folded letter, addressed to the Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas in Jefferson County, Ohio, bears a 29mm red "NEW LISBON/O." CDS that was in use from 1836 to 1852. The letter also bears manuscript "Paid" and "20" markings and a "PAID" stamp. Because the distance between New Lisbon and Steubenville (the county seat of Jefferson County) is about 35 miles, I assume that the letter originally consisted of two sheets and was mailed circa 1836-1845. The 30 to 80 mile zone rate for a single letter was 10 cents from May 1, 1816 to June 30, 1845. Effective July 1, 1845 the zone rate changed from single sheet to half ounce letters with the under 300 mile rate being set at 5 cents and over 300 miles at 10 cents. New Lisbon, Ohio, which had been founded in 1803, was renamed Lisbon, Ohio on January 17, 1895.
