June 24th 1939 Airmail N.Transatlantic New York, First Flight from New York to Dublin, Ireland .
The first airplane flight though was by a character named "wrongway Corrigan". Where we get the saying "flying by the seat of your pants" -unconfirmed- I don't think that there was any MAIL on that flight however...a little more research is needed here.

June 24 ... I came across this stamp from Canada the other day in a collection that was filled with stamps cancelled in the greater Vancouver area, with most from Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. This town, Haney, was one I had never heard of before. It turns out it's now a neighbourhood / community in Maple Ridge, so I suspect the Haney cancellation is now obsolete, but I don't know when it would have turned into a dead post office. The Archives Canada online database has no info past 1981, and in that database there is no reference to the post office having closed (or, more likely, transferred to Maple Ridge). Ryan

June 26th J.S. Pa. RPPC (Real Picture Post Cards) It wasn’t until the Dec. 24, 1901, Post Card Act deregulated the mailing of cards that privately produced picture postcards as we now know them were allowed to be produced and mailed for a penny.

June 27 ... here's a Canadian revenue stamp, a British Columbia law stamp that would also fit along with James' post of a much older issue of the same basic design. In my case, the cancellation is in much better shape than the stamp (which has been pierced in the middle by a staple), so I've put it here instead. Ryan

Cover from Тоцкое п.т. (Samara) to a location in nearby Orenburg oblast. Express sending with large “B” pink label (“B” stands for “ВАЖНОЕ” - “Vazhnoe” = important) and handwritten “speshnaya” = express. Franked correctly at the 70k express rate (20k for registered letter + 50k Express fee) with 10k definitive + strip of 3 of 20k "Industrial Loan" commemorative. The non-standard registration label is on cream paper, perfed, with a pre-printed registration number.

Post-Soviet Union letter mailed within Nikolaev in Ukraine. Apparently sent free-frank: the violet rectangular handstamp translates to "OFFICIAL Ministerial communication". Notice the use of Soviet stationery and postmark.

Isn't it rather unusual to see a "CCCP" postmark in use this late in Ukraine? Especially considering the date is a year and a half after the breakup of the Soviet Union, and also considering that Nikolaev / Mikolaiv is a large city, about a half million inhabitants. It's hard to believe that the post office of a city that large would still be using old equipment emblazoned with symbols of the "occupying territory". Did diplomatic / ministerial offices have their own cancellation equipment to bypass normal postal channels? Ryan PS - I'm not overly old yet but I'm old enough that I still want to say " The Ukraine" and I have to stop myself all the time. I always say "The Sudan" as well! Drat and blast.

Ryan, the use of Soviet postmarks was widespread practice until 1994 (see the cover I showed for June 9th with the use of a Soviet postmark from Kiev and for June 10th with a similar use + the use of an envelope with the USSR emblem from Kharkov). I guess economic hard times and the lack of the necessary funds made any bravado about "occupying power" a luxury. Not to mention the fact that common people in Nikolaev, Kharkov or Kiev did not think about the Soviet years along these lines (at least back in 1993-4).

June 30th, 1922
Cover from Petrograd / Nikol. Vokz. (Nikolaevsky railway station - oval postmark) to Innsbruck, Austria, 12/7/1922. Registered with interesting “provisional” large ZAKAZNOE handstamp in place of registration label (this appears to be an official handstamp, rather than a privately-applied one). Franked at 400.000 Rubles with 4x10k revalued Arms – Imperial arms stamps had been revalued to rubles in 1920 and subsequently remained in use thus, following the huge leaps in the value of the currency due to inflation. During the period in question: 1k = 10.000 rubles.
Siegfried Graubart (1890-1963), to whom the cover is addressed, served as a soldier in the Russian-Polish front in 1914-15. Between 1915 and 1920 he was a war prisoner in Russia, first in Khita and then in Vladivostok, before returning to Austria through the US. Graubart’s future wife, Ada (Odea) Soloweitschik, mentioned as the recipient of the letter on the front, was a Russian, born in Khita, who left Russia in 1921 through Vladivostok-Singapore-Trieste-Austria.
