November 27Stampless folded letter with 30mm black ANTWERP/NOV27/N.Y. CDS and manuscript "10" (the over 300 mile zone rate in effect) to Elisha Taylor of Detroit, Michigan on this date in 1849. Docketing inside indicates that the letter's sender was William N. Phillips and that it was received on December 3, 1849. There was no content.

Nov 27, 1899. Wow, my 3rd in a row!
Special delivery Massachusetts to Seattle. What is really interesting to me, is the back of the cover, RPO tr69(tr 63?) and a train late 1 mail delayed backstamp.
I love this cover! It's realy handsome and has some neat markings and hand-stamps. Neat stuff! |

This 6c orange, die 3 air post stamped envelope (Scott UC6) with 6c carmine, perf. 11 air post stamp from a booklet pane of 3 (Scott C25) was postmarked by the Army Postal Service's APO 689 (Ledo, Assam, India) on this date in 1944. The cover also bears an Army examiner mark.

December 2This cover to Paris, France was postmarked with both a Barry rectilinear machine cancel with diagonal lines and a duplex handstamp in Washington, DC on this day in 1897. The stamps are a 1c blue, perf. 12 Franklin (Scott 264; April 1895) and two 2c carmine, type IV, perf. 12 Washingtons (Scott 279Bf; November 1897).  This post card with Nazi censor mark was postmarked on this date in 1940 at Kladno, Bohemia and Moravia (Kladno is now in the Czech Republic). The 1.50k carmine stamp is Scott 32 issued in 1939.

December 3First day of issue cover for the 1959 4c rose lake, perf. 10.5x11 stamp honoring the 150th anniversary of Dr. Ephraim McDowell having performed the first successful ovarian operation in the U.S. at Danville, Kentucky in 1809 (Scott 1138).

December 4On this date in 1961 the United Nations celebrated the 15th anniversary of the United Nations Children's Fund with the issuance of a 3 stamp set. The perf. 11.5 stamps, designed by Minoru Hisano and printed in Switzerland by Courvoisier S.A., are: 3c brown, gold, orange & yellow (Scott 97); 4c brown, gold, blue & emerald (Scott 98); and, 13c deep green, gold, purple & pink (Scott 99).

December 5From Wichita Falls, Texas on this date in 1945, this cover bears a 3c blue, perf. 11x10.5 stamp (Scott 935) issued on October 27, 1945 to recognize the achievements of the U.S. Navy in World War II.  Also postmarked on this date in 2011 in the Kingdom of Agartha. It appears that the Agartha Philatelic Bureau did such a good job cancelling its 50c red & yellow Christmas 2011 issue (Agartha 35) that Royal Mail saw no need to cancel its postage.

December 9On this date in 1960, the United Nations issued a set of two stamps to honor the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The perf 13.5x13 set featuring a block and tackle was designed by Angel Medina Medina and printed by the Government Printing Bureau, Tokyo. The 4c multicolored stamp is Scott 86 (below on cover with ArtCraft cachet) and the 8c multicolored stamp is Scott 87.

December 10Postmarked Oakland, California in 1945. The 3c purple, perf. 11x10.5 stamp is the November 25, 1945 Alfred E. Smith issue (Scott 937).  Postmarked Houston, Texas in 1947. The 5c blue Franklin stamp is the left half of the May 19, 1947 Centenary International Philatelic Exhibition issue souvenir sheet (Scott 948a).  Postmarked Terminal Annex, Los Angeles, California in 1969. The 6c red & green, perf. 11 stamp on this reply card is the September 26, 1969 100th Anniversary of Intercollegiate Football issue (Scott 1382).
