Very pleasing to see a Registration Label given a rarity factor Shows the collector knows his stuff.  As an aside, I can think of two countries that employed registration labels as postage stamps, Dutch Opt German New Guinea and Persia. |

Very pleasing to see a Registration Label given a rarity factor Rod, registration labels are an aspect that interests me a lot, given that during the 1920's in the Soviet Union you can sometimes find use of non-standard / provisional registration labels. I have already shown such a use on my contribution here for January 3rd: an insured-letter label used in place of a registration label. I will show other types in the months to come. Interesting info about Dutch New Guinea and Persia. I did not know about these! |

Cheers Ncb  Found the rascals, they reside in Scott "New Britain" (Australian Occupation) Scott 43 etc & etc, around GBP 400 each Here is a real one (with appreciation from owner Mr. Jay Carrigan)  and another, celebrated on a Papua New Guinea, regular emmission.  |

The stamp's value is evident over 40 times on the stamp.

Inflation-period cover from УСТИНОВКA (Ustynovka), Khersonskaya to Berlin (2/3/1922) through Moscow, including 3-triangle oval canceller of 22/2/1922. Registered with handwritten inscriptions. Franked correctly at 10.000R with blocks of 34 and 6 of 250R second issue. The post-office, besides the absence of registration labels, appears to lack even a regular postal canceller, thus obliterating the stamps with multiple strikes of its postage-due oval canceller (the strike on the front is supplemented with a 27/I to indicate the date of dispatch). The stamps are glued on the back of an old Imperial-period postal form that had been used 11 years before: it bears two strikes, one of Ustinovka of 22/1/1911 and one of TPO Kherson-68-Kiev, 23/4/1911!!

Rod, below is a 3k stamp of Russia of 1864. I counted around 60 Arabic 3's in its background, NOT counting the alternating Latin III's!  A slight digression from the subject's picture content, but I was tempted.  |

A 3c deep violet Jefferson, perf. 10 horizontally (Scott 851) was issued on this date in 1939.  This $1 multicolored, perf. 14.5 stamp, designed by Paula Schmidt and printed by Questa Colour Security Printers, United Kingdom (Scott 293) was issued on this date in 1978.

Cover from Petrograd to Copenhagen, Denmark, 14/2/1922 (w/ address correction). Franked correctly at the registered letter rate of 10.000R (applicable between 21/11/1921 and 22/2/1922) with 10 copies of 1000R second definitive. Instead of registration label, there is a black 1-line “St Petersbourg” handstamp (Latin characters) and a “381” numerator cachet above it, serving as registration #. This old pre-war handstamp was used between January and March 1922. "Three-triangle" cds of Petrograd, 30/1/1922.
[The cover is addressed to August Schalburg, father of Christian Frederick von Schalburg. Christian Schalburg later became an infamous Danish Nazi that served in the Waffen SS and was leader of the Frei Korps Denmark. Killed in June, 1942. The Schalburg family had fled Petrograd after the October Revolution].

January 28By special delivery in 1911 from Rochester, New York. The 10c ultramarine, perf. 12 special delivery stamp is most likely Scott E8 (Watermark 190; EDU January 14, 1911). The accompanying 2c carmine, perf. 12 Washington is most likely Scott 375 (Watermark 190; EDU December 29, 1910). I've tried bright light from the cover's interior and a Morely-Bright Roll-A-Tector but had no luck in discerning the watermarks on either stamp.

Stampless folded letter without content from Wilmington, North Carolina. The 25mm black "WIL.N.C." CDS was in use between 1800 and 1818. The manuscript "25" paid the over 500 mile zone rate for single letters from approx. March 2, 1799 to January 31, 1815, and the over 400 mile rate from May 1, 1816 to May 1, 1825. In the intervening period (Feb 1, 1815 to Apr 30,1816) all zone rates were increased by 50% so the letter was not posted during that timeframe (the distance from Wilmington to Haddam is over 700 miles). A short biography on the addressee, Captain Jared Arnold, follows the image.

Cover from Kursk to Fiume, Italy (6/2/1928) through Udine Station (?), 5/2/1928 and Trieste, 6/2/1928. The cover is sent from the Kursk office of the All-Union Society of Philatelists (VOF) – see the violet rectangular cachet on front and the official handstamp seals on the back – and contained postage stamps (see inscription on back). It is nominally franked at 30k (the registered letter rate is 28k) with the inclusion of a copy of semi-postal B48 or B51 (at upper left, 2k of the price of which goes to charity-8k for postal charge).
Use of a non-standard, provisional registration label on cream paper, imperf, with pre-printed registration number. Also, a violet “R” handstamp of Kursk and an oval sorting / control mark (Italian?).

Agree with Udine Transit CDS, "UDINE FERR SEZIONE A" Udine Station Section A
Can you explain "Via Pomerio" is that Rome? if so, why?

Can you explain "Via Pomerio" is that Rome? if so, why? In Italian, "Via" can mean "street" or "road" as well as "by way of". That should be a street address, Pomerio Road. Ryan |
