What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I had shared this cover 3 years ago in the Canada Railway Post Office (RPO) thread. The Halifax South Western Railway cancel on the back of this cover from my home town of Liverpool, Nova Scotia to Springfield, Massachusetts was an added bonus on this cover. Once again there is lots going with this cover. It began with a 1 cent (U15) postal stationary envelope and then a 1 cent (Sc 97) and 5 cent (Sc 99) stamp from the Quebec Tercentenary issue set to cover franking for a registered letter to the USA. Quite impressive that a letter could go from Liverpool, NS to Springfield, Mass. in 1908 in just 2 days.

September 11, 1939 ... a Monday. By this date, Poland, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, India, Tongo, Transjordan, France, Morocco, Tunisia, Nepal, South Africa, Bahrain, Canada, and Oman were at war with Germany. This postcard was sent from Eastbourne in Sussex to Dagenham in Essex. The writer adds to an otherwise mundane message "I hope you haven't had any more raids". An interesting comment since I understood that the first action of the war directly involving the UK was the sinking of the Freighter Bosnia, sunk by U-47, on September 5. There was a friendly fire incident on September 6th on England's east coast (the Battle of Barking Creek) which claimed the life of an RAF pilot. So, what 'raids'? The image is of the Martello Tower in Eastbourne. One of 74 Martello Towers built along the south coast during the Age of Sail as a defense against Napoleon's Navy. This particular tower was known as the 'Wish Tower'. Stamp:King George VI 1d, Scarlet Issued 1937 SG 463 Cancel: Single Ring Duplex with 7 wavy lines Outer - EASTBOURNE SUSSEXInner - 2:30 AM / 11 SEPT / 1939

Finland, 13 September 1948, from the covers in my Dad's philatelic materials. The semi-postal stamps on the left (Scott # B91-93) are the three stamps from the five in Finland's 1947 "Infant" series that were overprinted and issued 13 September 1948 with a surcharge to help prevent tuberculosis. The three postage stamps are "The Lion Type of 1930" (Scott #271-273) issued in 1948.
