It`s September the Second in South Devon, England and Molde, Norway. I am never confident when reading a Gibbons catalogue, they are so awkward, but perhaps it could be reflected, your 4d vermillion, looks like it doesn't have a centre phosphor band, it could have been worth GBP 2000.  It`s hard to see in the scan but it does have a centre band. |

Postcard (view of Hammonasser Park, Connecticut) from USA to Krasno(bordensk?), 21/9/1930, via Moscow, 18/9/1930 (machine cancellation). Franked with 2 cent definitive and assessed 1 cent due in US with red linear cachet. In the USSR it received an oval Doplatit (=due) mark with an indication of 4 kopecks due.
Fascinating card, one can see the little knurled impressions of the tractor wheel that drives the article through the Krag machine, and, against all probabilities, the card has gone through, standing on its edge, hence, the canceller has completely missed the stamps. The offset of the Krag ink appears on the front of the card. |

Why does the date on that duplex read Sept 2nd 1990? Even if the date slugs was messed up I still can't make much sense of it? Interesting!September 2nd, 1930

Jeff, you are possibly miss reading the number due to the ink splodge. It is 1930, see other CDS's on the card

yeah might just be an ink blotch plus I was thinking "Washington/Franklin" series 1908-1920's not the "America" series which this clearly is...ugh long day already! lol

September 3rd 1907
VILAS (was in Jersey Shore) postmark to Trout Run, PA. Receiving mark. Just down the creek a little ways. Likely delivered by the train. Most Vilas markings are proving to be from the rain line. Jersey Shore as a whole was known as a lot of smaller villages that eventually merged into one municipality. Vilas, cochern town, Bastress, etc..
Came through all right ........."But had to let Charley Bob talk all the way" Who can relate to that? You just want a peaceful ride, and yet score someone barking in your ear all the way. |

September 4Postmarked Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1961. The 4c ultramarine, perf. 10.5x11, grayish paper stamp (Scott 1186) Workmen's Compensation issue commemorated the 50th anniversary of the first successful workmen's compensation law which had been enacted by the Wisconsin legislature.  Postmarked South Queensferry West Lothian (Scotland) in 1964. First Day cover for the 3d, black, lilac & blue, and 6d violet black, perf. 14.5x14 stamps (Scott 418 and 419) commemorating the opening of the Forth Road Bridge, Scotland.

September 5Postmarked New York, New York on this date in 1893 is this 1c black U. S. Grant message card detached (Scott UY1m).  Two first day of issue, cacheted covers for the 15c purple, perf. 10.5x11 Edith Wharton (novelist) stamp from the Literary Arts series postmarked in New Haven, Connecticut in 1980.

Cover (with the letterhead of the Soviet Philatelic Association in English) from Moscow-50 (the post-office attached to the SPA) to Montreal, Canada (backstamps of 22 and 23/9). Registered with black handstamp of “Moscow 50” and franked correctly at 35k with: 20k “Moscow subway” (Scott 554), 10k “Spartakiada” (Scott 564 - the first triangular stamps of the USSR) and 5k “10th anniversary of October” (Scott 376).
Hi Vasia, nice cover! With respect. "Triangular Stamp" ? I would have this as a Diamond stamp, or a Quadrilateral, or possibly a Rhombus. Interested to hear your take on it. |
