Beginning in October, the Forum will publish a bi-monthly newsletter that will be distributed to the membership electronically. We welcome articles written by our members on any aspect of philately, so long as they are original works. Submissions found to have been copied from online sources, in whole or in part, will be declined or returned to their authors for reworking. Members are encouraged to submit one or more articles for publication in the newsletter. Anything related to philately is acceptable and articles reflecting your personal experiences or expertise are preferred. When preparing and submitting an article, the following guidelines apply: a. Write in the first person using a conversational style. Provide enough background so that readers can follow your discussion. b. When conducting research, use primary sources whenever possible; websites such as Wikipedia are not reliable sources of factual information. Cite your sources, as appropriate, and provide a bibliography. Take care to ensure that submitted images are not copyrighted. c. Try to keep your article to between 1 and 3 pages in length. If more length is required, the article may be published in parts. d. Text that is written using most word processing programs will be accepted. e. Don’t embed images; place markers in the text indicating where accompanying images should be positioned. Keep recommended captions short. f. Scanned images 800 pixels or larger in size are preferred in .jpg, .tiff or.png format. Please don’t upload them to image sites as many downgrade the resolution to conserve space. Images that are dark or lacking color can be modified but blurred images are unacceptable for publication. g. Submit manuscripts and images as attachments to an email sent to ckdorn47 (at) yahoo.com. Send a follow-up email to the same address letting us know what you sent so we can be sure that all attachments have been received. h. The Forum’s editorial staff reserves the right to edit all material accepted for publication. Authors will receive a copy of the edited manuscript for review prior to publication. i. In submitting an article, the author is giving consent for its publication in the newsletter and posting on the APS website. One benefit of being an APS Chapter is that we can participate in the society’s Philatelic Articles of Distinction program. Each September we will hold a competition to select the best philatelic-related article published in the newsletter during the preceding year. All members who have had articles published are eligible, regardless of their APS membership status. The author of the selected work will be recognized by the APS and his or her article will be posted on the APS website along with a link to our Forum. The APS Articles of Distinction website may be viewed at stamps.org/articles-of-distinction. In order to make the publication target of October 1, articles submitted for inclusion in the inaugural issue of the newsletter must be received not later than September 10, 2016. Submissions for publication in subsequent issues of the newsletter must be received by the 10th of November, January, March, May, July or September.

PHILATELIC MEMORIES
If you have read the third Issue of the TSF Newsletter you will have seen a new article entitled 'Philatelic Memories'. These are some of the things that make our hobby so special, our memories of things past sometimes bad but mostly good. We all have them. So now I want you to tell us about them ! You know by now some of mine, there are many more but I chose those really special [or just awful] for me. So tell about your 'Philatelic Memories' by writing some of them down and sending to Stampforum.net (at) gmail.com by March 10th. Let's make this a regular column in the Newsletter and it can only happen with your help. Articles can be short or long; one memory or many; good or bad; funny or sad; an ebay experience; Exhibition visit....anything at all that you will never forget about the hobby you love. So come and join in and make 'Philatelic Memories' Part 2 your memory. One or more articles could be included in an issue depending upon space so if you don't see your 'memory' in the next issue it will appear at a later date. So get writing everyone........and have fun, because that's what it's all about ! Londonbus1........now for TSF Giveaway No.2 !!

There is slightly more than a month before we begin compiling material for the June-July issue of the Newsletter so put those pens to paper and begin work on your philatelic-related submissions. Our first annual Articles of Distinction competition will be conducted in September with the winning submission being sent to the American Philatelic Society for posting on their website.

We are approaching the submission target (May 10) for articles to be included in our next newsletter (Jun-Jul 2017)).
Please consider supporting your forum by contributing a philatelic-related article.
Material can be a summation of your research into a particular area of philately or simply a narrative on topics such as what the hobby means to you, a philatelic memory, or why you began collecting.
If you are working on something but will need a little more time to complete it, just let me or @falshung know and we'll see if we can accommodate an extension.

If you are working on an article for the next issue of the newsletter (Aug-Sep's submission target is July 10th) please send me a message so we can get a feel for how much material we'll have.
To remind, this will be the last newsletter published prior to our holding of the first annual "best article" competition.
If you've thought about writing for the newsletter but haven't taken the next step, consider something personal like: what interested you in collecting, a cherished philatelic mentor or memory, what collecting has meant to you, etc.

Calling all Canada collectors! You may find this hard to believe but we don't have a Canada article in the que for our next newsletter issue. If you are a collector of all things Canada, now would be a good time to help your Forum out and put pen to paper. Our submission target is July 10th but we will be able to extend that for someone who commits to write. Don't forget that submitting an article for this newsletter will put you in the running for our First Annual "Best Article" Competition. Thanks, in advance, for helping us out.

As Summer begins to wind down it is time to get started on that article you'd been meaning to write for the Forum Newsletter.
We had some really good articles in our first year of publication and we'd like to continue that trend.
Anything related to our hobby is acceptable, which means that all of us are capable of writing something for inclusion.

We are still in need of material for the next issue of the Forum Newsletter so I'd like to encourage members who may have been reluctant in the past to submit a philatelic memory or short piece on some aspect of your collecting interests.
To remind, all submissions for the Newsletter's Volume II will be in consideration for our 2018 Articles of Distinction competition.

If you are planning on submitting an article, please send falschung and me a forum message to let us know when you anticipate submitting and how much material we can anticipate.
Thanks, in advance!

Many of you may have noticed that our last issue of the Newsletter (V2.2) covered the December 2017 - February 2018 timeframe.
Accordingly, we would like to receive submissions for Volume 2, Issue 3 by February 10, 2018 (see the initial post in this thread for the desired format and other relevant info).
We've already received several articles but can always use more -- should we receive too many for inclusion in a single issue, we'll hold the remainder for publication in a subsequent Newsletter.
Since we began publishing a Newsletter in late-2016, some 20 of our members have contributed material.
While we welcome further contributions from those members, we'd also like to see others try their hand at writing something of a philatelic nature for the Newsletter.
If you think you'd like to have a go at it but aren't quite sure what or how you might contribute, send me a forum personal message and I'll try to help you get started.

Our next newsletter will be out in June so it is time to start working on your submissions if you haven't done so already.
We are interested in receiving anything philatelic-related, be it a well-researched article or a general interest story (e.g., Why I Collect, Stamp(s) with a Personal Connection, My Visit to StampEX XYZ, etc.).
Both Nelson (@falshung) and I are prepared to help get you started if you're not sure about how to proceed -- just send a forum personal message (PM) if you'd like some help.

This is just a friendly reminder that our Newsletter needs your support if it is to continue to thrive. As a consequence of recent events, Newsletter authors can now justifiably claim that their work has appeared in an award-winning publication! If you are able to craft a coherent post on the forum, you have the ability to write an article about something related to philately -- writing about stamps, postal history, your collecting interests, tips for beginning collectors, etc., are all fair game. The June-July issue of the Newsletter is now being compiled so if you have something currently in-work, please try to get it to us by May 10th (there is always some wiggle room if you're close to completion). If you're just starting out and can't make this issue, our target for the August-September issue is July 10th. Information related to the submission process can be found at the front of this thread. For those who are new to the Forum, we'll be holding our second annual "best article" competition during September and the winning article will become an APS Article of Distinction. Thanks for your interest -- I look forward to reading your articles.

The submission target for material to be included in the August-September issue of the Forum’s Newsletter is rapidly approaching.
Sadly, as of this writing we have received neither material for publication nor expressions of intent to submit.
All manner of philatelic-related material is welcome, from in-depth articles about a specific aspect of philately to human interest pieces describing memorable collecting experiences, how one became interested in stamp collecting or postal history, or other such subject matter.
For those who may not be aware, the Forum’s Newsletter is maintained in the American Philatelic Research Library’s digital collection so it benefits a wider audience than just the Forum's membership.
In September the Forum will conduct its second annual competition to select the article that members consider the “best” from among all those published in the preceding year (Volume 2). The chosen article will be submitted to the American Philatelic Society to be included as one of its Articles of Distinction.
We can’t continue producing what has become an award-winning publication if Forum members aren’t willing to support this effort.
Writing something for the Newsletter doesn’t need to be difficult. If a member can compose an informative post on the Forum they have the ability to do the same for the Newsletter.

As was mentioned in the Forum update that opened the latest issue of the Forum's Newsletter, we haven't been receiving enough material to justify a bi-monthly publication. Volume 3 will be published on a quarterly basis with its first issue covering the period October through December 2018. We had one TSF member contribute his first article (thank you bluehens ) and I'm hopeful that others will follow suit. As I review the posts that have been made as of late, I know that the potential exists for some really informative Newsletter articles so I am making yet another appeal for members to step up and contribute something of a philatelic nature. The submission target for the Oct-Dec Newsletter is early- to mid-September. All we need is a text file and some images if they support the text -- we will take care of the editing and layout. Thank you, in advance, for supporting the Forum.

Two Friendly Reminders
To begin, we are still in need of material for the January - March 2019 issue of the Newsletter so please consider supporting the Forum by submitting an article on any topic of a philatelic nature. That issue will be the last of three which will be submitted to APS for its newsletter competition. Also, the poll to identify the article from previous issue of the Newsletter (V3.1) that will compete in our 2019 Article of Distinction competition during September remains open. Only 9 or our members have made their choice known thus far so I'm appealing to all members to support the Forum by reviewing that Newsletter and identifying your favorite by completing the poll ( which can be found here).

As we approach the publication date for the April - June 2019 issue of the Forum's Newsletter it is yet again time to appeal to members to finish their articles and submit them as soon as is practicable. Please also don't forget to cast your votes for your favorite article in each of the two previous Newsletters produce this publication year. The polls for both of these issues may be viewed on the Articles of Distinction board. Thanks to all for your continued support of our Forum and its Newsletter.

If you are working on an article, please try to submit it no later than March 15th (see the initial post above for instructions). Also, only 25 and 28 members, respectively, have noted their preferred article in the preliminary Article of Distinction selection polls for Issues 1 and 2. If you haven't already done so, please note your preferences here.

I have articles from the six members listed below included in Volume 5, Issue 2 (Jan-Mar 2021) of the Forum's Newsletter. kasvik ameis33 astp007 cindycan2 David M Frye stanley64 If you sent me an article and your name isn't listed, please accept my apology and resend the article to me. I won't be able to get it into this issue but it will definitely be published in V5.3. And while I've got everyone's attention, I'd like to receive submissions for V5.3 not later than the first week of March (trying to get back on schedule). I can work with pdf files with embedded images but Word files are preferred as they are much easier for me to work with. Images as separate files are also preferred.

I'm still appealing for articles to fill the pages of our Newsletter and it seems that I'm not alone. The APS, similarly, is appealing to its membership for submissions. If you're interested in writing for either of us, please do so -- the Forum needs your support in order to continue publishing a newsletter. For those interested in writing for The American Philatelist, here is its call for writers:
