As of today the United States is 48 days away from electing our 45th president. Well, actually our 44th president as Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms and is counted chronologically as both the 22nd and 24th president but I digress. Presidential elections seem to cause Americans to take a look at the best and the worst in ourselves, our nation, our government and our candidates. That said, let's see your presidents - the best of them, the worst of them, all of them.

Harry S. Truman - 33rd POTUS The "S" in Harry S. Truman did not stand for any name but was a compromise between the names of his grandfathers, Anderson Shipp Truman and Solomon Young.

An old block I've kept for a long time: President Warren G. Harding, the 29th POTUS.

jimjung The pin roulette perforation on the imperf Harding stamps is interesting. Are the stamps flat plate or rotary press printings?

I don't see any signs of a Rotary Press but I'm not an expert on that. Here's a scan of the back. I'm thinking the rouletting was done privately, possible at a place of work. But the block of 6 was cut with scissors. There is a purple mark at the bottom margin of the lower left stamp. Not sure what that is ...

When I recently acquired a friend's mother's collection, I found among it some presidential inauguration FDCs. They were for Reagan and Bush I, and came in binders. Neat stuff, but I wonder how much the poor woman paid for all of these, versus how little they are probably worth today.

Well, my contribution is not really a presidential stamp, but an autographed fundraising dinner menu for President Reagan (candidate, at the time) which my parents attended some 44 years ago.....I had asked my parents for an autograph:
I'll always remember my mom coming home that evening and telling me she literally ran into the illustrious soon-to-be-president; seems Ronald Reagan was going down some steps and nearly bumped into my mother going up. R.R. jokingly said something very funny, which, unfortunately, I've forgotten but I have the menu and his signature as a keepsake!

for such a meal you'd be hard-pressed to find one for $25 these days (dinner alone!)
