What I collect: Worldwide Stamps 1840-1930

I have been meaning to post this scan of some used examples of Jubilee stamps from my collection, but I was inspired to do it today by the questions asked to me by nikhil. So, my young friend, you will be receiving in your giveaway packet the 1-cent, 2-cent, and 3-cent from the 1897 Canada Queen Victoria Jubilee issue. The stamps shown below are in my collection back in California, but I have duplicates of the first three (sorry, no 5-cent duplicate available just now), so you will be getting those in your packet. A couple of months ago, I acquired some other used Jubilee issues, which I will post later in this thread. That also included the 20-cent, which I recently traded to Xavier ( hrdoktorx). Anyway, more to come in the next few days, but I wanted to give Nikhil a little preview.

The rest of my Jubilee family portrait. I noticed only yesterday the nice flag cancel on the lighter of the two 3-cent values. The 2-cent also has a flag cancel.

I was asked to repost this image in the Jubilee thread. This issue is one of my favourites and I am always watching for interesting (and affordable) multiples and covers. Here is a set of the proofs.

On the advice of Chris ( Beryllium Guy ) I am posting my meagre collection of Jubilee's I have. I missed out on a beauty on the weekend - the $1 with a SON from Berlin (now Kitchener) Ontario. It went for $100 more than my bid. The things you miss when it is an internet auction. I'm very slowly amassing this beautiful set. The 1¢ looks like it was perhaps cancelled in Bala Ontario sometime in April. I also want to re-do all these pages for slip-in page protectors. That isn't a priority just yet...

My own collection of Canada's Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee issues has been neglected and although this page was created a number of years ago (before computers and stuff), I do recognise a familiar thread or style,
perhaps this is to be the next area to re-visit and focus on...
Happy collecting!

That's a nice start on the Jubilees brightonpete - beautiful DIY page as well - good luck on the continuation Thanks to Beryllium Guy for inspiring us all to share stuff - and even at appropriate threads stanley64 - great selection of 3c jubilees - with some nice postmarks, in particular the RPO's

Thanks blaamand and although I see from brightonpete 's page that the 3¢ is the most common of the stamp from the series with 20 million produced, they do tend to have nice cancels. For the two the RPO cancels shown - same line, same direction, same date, what are the chances? For me though that cancel that caught my eye was the 2 July, 1897 Whitewood, ASSA cancel in the middle of the second row.
I have to agree with others' comments in the thread, this is a beautiful set and they do show well...
Happy collecting!

I was thinking the same about the identical RPOs, what are the chances? Close to zero. I would guess those two stamps have been washed from the same cover at some point?
Very sweet Whitewood postmark indeed! Nice to find good postmarks from tiny places like that.

Here's an odd one. Not many errors on the 2c from what I've heard.

jumjung - would that be from debris on the paper during printing which was removed after printing? Is there a bit of a paper recess where the white area is?

jumjung - would that be from debris on the paper during printing which was removed after printing? Is there a bit of a paper recess where the white area is? The extra white area is perfectly smooth. My guess is there was some dried ink left on the plate that wasn't completely wiped off between printing sheets.

Canada 1897 Jubilee Cover Scott #53, 3-cent bright roseJust wanted to take a moment to give a shout-out of thanks to my friend René ( renden) for sending this cover to me recently. It is the first Canada QV Jubilee cover in my collection and hopefully not the last. René already posted this image elsewhere, but I also wanted to include it in this thread, while expressing my gratitude. Thank you so much for your generosity, René!

Well, René ( renden), when I said "hopefully not the last", I just meant that I hope to add other Jubilee covers to my collection over time. That was not meant to imply that I expect you to furnish them to me! I give you full credit for the inspiration of sending this cover to me, as it gives me another aspect of the Jubilees to collect. Thanks again!

I don't have all of them, but 12 of 16 isn't too bad. The half, one, five, six and fifteen are mint hinged. Reorganizing my Canada now that I have my Album page inserts done, and these are my Jubilees. Would like to get the 20c at some point to fill the gap. The top three values....maybe someday.

It has taken decades but with the arrival of the 4.00 Jubilee I can now say I have a complete set. Like some others I gave up on mint on the higher values. Page one has a few colour variations of the one cent that would appear to be just oxidization. Also there are a couple of nice cancels I had to keep. I do have a few more lower values on covers that I may have shared before on other threads. Lucky You !! I will not go there, I think Mine stop at 50 cents- I really am not in LUV with these, for the CV (sorry !!) René

Canada 1897 Queen Victoria Jubilee Postal CardI don't normally collect postal stationery, but I decided to make an exception to that in order to add this item to my Canada 1897 QV Jubilee holdings. While I still prefer the stamps, I thought that this would make a nice addition to accompany those. Special thanks to Alex ( vikingeck) for helping me to acquire this item in one of his local stamp club auctions.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I have been selling them off on eBay listed at 1.99 and had included a few with forum giveaways. I am now down to one for my collection and one more with a nibble off a corner. Glad you did find one though.

Hugh ( hdm1950), many thanks for your nice comments: The truth is that I didn't realize that there was any postal stationery with the QV 60th Jubilee design from Canada until I saw this card in the auction lot. I had just never run across it before, so I didn't even know that it existed. Anyway, I sincerely appreciate your kind thoughts in this regard, and I am also glad to have found a nice example for my collection. Thanks again!

During my quick look through the old stock book after my last post I was surprised to find this little treasure. It is not from my home county of Queens in Nova Scotia but I had not seen this Morris Street Halifax, N.S. postmark before so I think I need to hold on to it. A search on eBay I did find a few more examples of the postmark but none as clear and SON like this one. I see stanley64 posted a nice collection of these used 3 cent Jubilees a few years ago. I noted that a .02 Xmas map had recently sold on eBay with this postmark.

Nice to see the Jubilee's Peter ( brightonpete ); thanks for showing and congratulation of completing the set thus far; there are some gems there :-) At the same time, might I suggest treating the $ values as a second set albeit on the same page. In addition to avoiding the railroad tracks of repeating rows in the layout, the first set would look complete if you moved the $1 value and created two rows just for the high values X X X X X X X X X X X X X X X X It is of course, just a suggestion, but I think you have the room... Have fun and happy collecting!
