I have web pages showing the various Virgin Islands issues from King Edward VII thru King George V.
The King Edward set is pretty simple to sort because there are no listed color shades. The two King George V sets have a number of color shades, so it is more challenging.
Select the links if you are interested in seeing the various color shades.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

This week's new arrivals included the 1888 Scott 18 which is the 1 shilling with 4D overprint featuring St. Ursula with the red margins. The use of St. Ursula is a nice change from the heavy usage of Queen Victoria on Commonwealth countries in that era. The 1 shilling with white margins is Scott 7 and with red margins is Scott 8. I do not know the reason for the red margins.

Found this in a lot recently purchased, I tend to think it is a forgery, but welcome identification experts!

Can you assess thickness? flick it with your index finger, same feeling as with a paper stamp ? or thicker perhaps?

I’m not an expert on Virgin Island, but that “square of dots” cancel is similar to the ones I often see on my Venezuelan forgeries.

What was amazing was that the long tailed ‘S’ was found looking at this photo of page 1 from my Virgin Islands collection.

hdm1950 - Your BVI collection is wonderful! Do you have a cutoff date for this collection? I know that finding anything from there postally used after 1980 is almost impossible. I still have my tiny starter Virgin Is, also the Leewards as they tie in somewhat with my Danish West Indies.

I still have my tiny starter Virgin Is, also the Leewards as they tie in somewhat with my Danish West Indies. I cut off around 1966 Terri. That is the case of most everything but Canada, USA, England, Australia and New Zealand. I only have gone into the 1980's with Canada and USA because I had the pages in my production albums. I do have some newer supplement pages for the British America countries into the early 1970's but I do not pursue stamps to fill them. If stamps come my way for those pages in collections and job lots I will keep them but anything newer I tend to move on. I have nothing around from the 1980's from the Virgin Islands at this time.

Here is page 2 and 3 from my Scott British America album. The pages following this up to 1965 are complete except for a couple of 1964 issues. I have not pursued varieties for this country.

On a Facebook site I follow there has recently been posts in regards the 1970 Virgin Islands ship set that has been poorly reprinted. My set came mounted with a bunch of Minkus pages I picked up sometime. My set appears fine. The reprints have the expected photocopy dots.

doug534 Postmark : ROAD-TOWN TORTOLA bvi (Capital) Road Town, located on Tortola, is the capital and largest town of the British Virgin Islands. It is situated on the horseshoe-shaped Road Harbour PS: It is my (Uneducated guess) that WI is an error in production, and should be VI
WI and VI appear to be pertinent but VI was used in 1911 link

PS: It is my (Uneducated guess) that WI is an error in production, and should be VI Perhaps so, but that postmark was in use for quite a while. Your example dates from 1946, and this example (nabbed from the Steve Drewett / Empire Stamp Auctions site) shows the same postmark in use in 1941. (I also saw a commercially used cover with that postmark - this one has a bit of a philatelic look to it.) "British West Indies" was a term in common usage at the time, according to Wikipedia. "Before the decolonization of the Americas in the later 1950s and 1960s, the term "British West Indies" was regularly used to include all British colonies in the region as part of the British Empire." We know the W.I. abbreviation can't stand for "Windward Islands" in this case, as BVI was among the Leeward Islands. Ryan

Ryan Thanks for your research. Understood. Your "suspect" philatelic cover, may hold some interest for you ? Mr. Groves of "Rampisham" Dorset (My country) perhaps was writing to his wife? Here is a letter from Ontario (Petawawa Camp) (I note his farm, was listed under a real Estate valuation (for sale?) in 1941-42 link
