I did chose the latest "stable" version, 1.4.7. But if 1.5.4 works fine I will upgrade after summer holiday. What can you do in 1.5.4. that is not possible in 1.4.7?

A while back I had received an old US album that was falling apart. There were quite a few mint-hinged. Last night I removed all the stamps from it and this morning I am sorting the stamps and putting them in the tubs to be put in one of my US collections or in a stockbook.

Speaking of U.S. collections, I was able to add 4 Washington-Franklins to mine. I'd almost forgotten what a pain it is to ID some of them.

tobben63 , When I started using Scribus several years ago, there was a 1.4.x and 1.5.x. At the time the 1.5.x had some important commands to easily allow you to distribute elements (stamp boxes for me) to space vertically and horizontal that were not in the 1.4.x code stream. It may changed. These make layout very easy. For example, you put the boxes on page. select ones that are in a row, then align to a baseline so all lined up by bottom, then distribute them equal spaces on the row. Do this for all rows then group teach row and do then space the rows. I follow a grid method on layout so alignment and spacing consistency is very important to me.
This is under the "Windows" menu.

I also us Scribus 1.5.4 I had an odd issue with 1.4 where the main window would slowly work it's way off the screen after multiple open/close and I would need to go into the code and and reduce the display value for x
It seems this was/is a known bug for some users
1.5.4 I have only had to go into the source code once, though I have noticed if you scroll too slowly over the drop down choices (rt click) it will freeze the program
I have learned to save often!

Alas, no real stamping for the past few days, but I have new tenants who moved in today. Just in time because on Sunday there is a local auction.

The pasty few days have been spent updating the Canada & Germany spreadsheets. Now all that is left is the German semi-postals. There are way too many of those, I tell ya!\
But that is off for a bit as 3 auction lots arrived in the mail today. 100 Albania from 1913-1983, 116 Iceland from 1938 (another Leif Ericsson souvenir sheet!) and yet another pile (189) of Germany from 1918-1948. These ones are mostly MNH, so they'll be replacing a number already mounted. So these lots will keep me busy for a bit...

In another thread about pages of your own design, classicalstamps said: "Even several on one page." I would love to have the luxury of enough space to devote a page to several stamps let lone a single stamp. In a few places I have more than one stamp per space in the row. To be honest I am now wondering if I have enough time left to catalogue what I already have. Then the next auction catalogue arrives with six hundred objects of temptation listed within and writing up my collection goes on the back burner while I assimilate more.

Thanks for your posts, Gavin ( feebletodix)! I always enjoy learning what you are up to. You seem to have a knack for turning up some great material. I sure do understand about the acquisition bug, though. It seems to be an all-or-nothing situation with me. I am incapable of just buying a little bit. I either buy a whole bunch of stuff or I have shut myself down completely. Is there an auction this Sunday? As it happens, I am on my way to Oxford right now.....

Thankyou for the kind words, alas no there is not an auction this weekend, the next is the 18th of August and is a big one for Oxford, 480+ lots, a bit of everything from allover.
be well all

Thanks for letting me know, Gavin ( feebletodix). Too bad, but considering that no planning whatsoever went into it from my end, perfectly predictable result! I wish I could return for 18th August, as it sounds great, but that weekend is already committed elsewhere. Changing subjects for a moment, congratulations to Xavier ( hrdoktorx) on reaching your 2,000th post today! Your contributions to TSF have been great. I am proud to have brought you on board, but that’s all the credit I can take, as the rest has been all you— well done! I know that some members think that mentioning milestone posts is silly, but with all due respect, I don’t agree. I surely understand that targeting the attainment of a certain number of posts beyond the 50 needed for full membership seems a little odd, but I think that if you consider the number of posts as a mark of participation, contribution, and support of TSF, then I am all for acknowledging when a member reaches a milestone post. Anyway, thanks again to Gavin, and congrats again to Xavier! Have a good weekend all!

Not much stamping last week. I'm away from home on vacation by my wifes parents. In a neighbor town I read that there would be a collectors and antique market, the biggest in Norway! My wife loves art and antique so we took the 1 hour ride. And I'm very pleased with the autcome. I bought a goldring with a nice stone in (smoky quarts?) and I got several old stocbooks, mostly with old Norwegian material, but also some african. I promised myself not to buy anymore, but hey, the prices was low and the weather fine 😊 Now I iook forward to get home and sort the classic Norwegian, there was several "skilling" stamps and a lot of old "posthorn" stamps.

Not very stampy this past week. We had some cooler temps so we did some yard work we had been putting off because of the heat. I was given some Yucca plants and hope to finish planting them today. I am hoping this evening to soak some stamps from this bottomless box. I also have a tub of US, modern Canada, and some Machins that need to be Citrused someday.

Trying to get the German spreadsheet done, and have finished with the 3rd Reich semi-postals. Now on to the bazillion issued to 1989. I think that's where I'll stop, as they issued just too many after that point.
I'll attempt to keep these spreadsheets up-to-date a little more often than once per year! It's almost too much to do at once!

I have been working on a translation of a tiny newspaper and letter flown out of Paris on a Manned Balloon in 1870 when the city was under siege by the Prussian Army> I got it at the recent Stamp fair in York a week ago .
I have posted a picture or two on my "Postal History is not just Stamps Collecting" thread with a small explanatory write up.

Ah Rene, mais la traduction (the translation) is for my own interest, not to publish here. I read and speak a fair bit of French but I am far from bi lingual, I can understand about 80% of the print at the first reading but the handwriting is more difficult.

I spent more time with St. Lucia. This involved remounting stamps on Scott pages to Steiner and updating StampManage which had many missing entries. The Scott pages were 2 sided but no spaces for the larger high denomination sheets that many issues included. I wonder how Scott intended for these to be collected. I ended up ordering more mounts from Global stamps.

It's a stamp mail day for me today. My winnings from tomiseksj, the Hungarian postage dues arrived, as well as the Ecuador stamps then renden had put up for sale. Both mailed the same day & arrived the same day. How's that for service? Now if only that package coming up from coastwatcher would ever arrive... I think it's be in the system for a month now. And I continued on with the German semi-postals, but my catalog stopped at 1984. So I ordered the complete pages (including States and DDR) from that ex-chiropractor . So that should be here next week. So I'll put them aside for now & sort the stuff that came today, while waiting for other stuff to arrive.

I soaked a few hundred Czech stamps the other day and I'm sure I'll have quite a few duplicates. Today I need to find the time (and motivation) to take them out of the drying book to see if I can fill any of my missing spaces. My USPS Informed Delivery Daily Digest email tells me that an ebay order from a Canadian seller is to arrive today so the Czechoslovakia material my have to wait.

I am pawing through the GB stamps giveaway that arrived in today's mail from brightonpete! Thank you sir! I already see a few spaces that will be filled. I haven't seriously looked at the machins yet but there might be one or two that I need there as well. Also love the Klingon Battle Cruiser and good ol' Enterprise adorning the cover!

I was just doing a little poking around for something or other, when I realized that back in February when smauggie made his last post at that point, it was his 500th, and I don't remember if anyone said anything about that. So, belated congratulations to Smauggie (Antonio) for reaching this milestone of TSF contribution! We miss you, Smauggie, so don't be a stranger! Speaking of missing people, where have Mark ( madbaker ), Jad ( Bombadil ), Michael ( mdroth ), and Bobby ( bobby1948 ) been lately? I have recently gotten some "likes" on my posts from these guys, but would love to see some greater signs of life from them! Come on, guys, drop us a line and let us know what you're up to! Stay stampy, all!

Lol! Thanks, Chris! Beryllium Guy. Let’s see, where to start. I was happily going through two huge envelopes of stamps that a friend gave me. This was in mid-June sometime. Anyway, we met with our real estate agent about selling our house and she told us that if we want to be on Vancouver Island by Thanksgiving we need to list the house on August 1. Yikes! So my entire collection is packed into 9 banker boxes and a couple of tubs and is in the garage, while we got the house into shape. We’ll make August 1, but barely. Still have some painting to do tonight. So my hobby time is down to remembering to check the forums every week or so and hitting ‘like’ now and again. The good news is Victoria boasts three (3!) stamp clubs and several coffee gatherings. So I might be doing more with the hobby in November. Mark PS - Why move? Why now? Both our kids are moving out and moving away, so now is our chance to say goodbye to -40 winters!
