Working on Great Britain this evening and will likely move on to Greece...because that is what's next in my album. Mounting some of the stamps I received from Brightonpete and working on the old album I bought at the stamp show.

What I collect: Worldwide Stamps 1840-1930

Let’s see, where to start. I was happily going through two huge envelopes of stamps that a friend gave me. This was in mid-June sometime. Anyway, we met with our real estate agent about selling our house and she told us that if we want to be on Vancouver Island by Thanksgiving we need to list the house on August 1. Yikes! So my entire collection is packed into 9 banker boxes and a couple of tubs and is in the garage, while we got the house into shape. We’ll make August 1, but barely. Still have some painting to do tonight. The good news is Victoria boasts three (3!) stamp clubs and several coffee gatherings. So I might be doing more with the hobby in November. Mark, great to hear from you and to get your news.... exciting stuff! Nothing like a household move to shake things up a bit! Well, please keep an eye on those stamps in the garage. In my experience, accidents seem more likely to happen in garages than in other parts of the house, so hopefully all will go well with your stamps in that temporary storage place. Just out of curiosity, while you were packing things up, did you come across anything that you had forgotten you had? I always had fun during our moves when that would happen. It almost felt as good as making a new acquisition! Congratulations on choosing Victoria; it is a lovely place, in my opinion. I have been there several times over the years, and I have often said that if I were going to move to Canada at any point, Victoria and Vancouver Island would be my first choice! Best of luck with the move, and don't be shy about posting, even during this time without your collection!

While waiting for the Scott German & Ecuadoran pages to arrive, there is lots to do. I got back into the Canadian Christmas stamp album pages. I had initially was going to collect up to 2002, as 2003 onwards, they are self-sticking & I don't want those. I had an order at Vista Stamps pending, but only had up to Christmas 1979. So I started adding more after, but ultimately decided not to go on after 1985. That's when Canada Post started experimenting with a bar-coded stamp along with the regular stamps. One could save 2¢ per Christmas card using it. But the years leading up to 2002 would have cost around $100+. So I added a nice Lighthouse Classic Grande with the American flag on the spine & cover for my fledgling American collection. I might buy the Canadian version as well depending on how well I like this one.
So a mitt-full of mostly Canadian Christmas stamps will be heading my way shortly. I had all the tagged versions of the Christmas stamps, but none of the untagged.
Collecting to just 1985 makes my album page design just that much easier, which will give me more time for other stuff. I'll probably stop Canada entirely at 1985, save for some definitives.

Wow, they must not have been very busy at Vista Stamps. My order has already been shipped. Maybe Friday? Ugh, next Monday is a holiday, so no mail for 3 days!

I had run out of the normal paper I used for printing Steiner pages so I had paused working on stamps in any significant way for a while. Recently, however, more paper came with an order from Amazon so now I have printed more pages for Greece and am mounting stamps from a collection I purchased about a year ago, stamps from the album I bought a month ago and others I had accumulated on stock pages over time.
It also helps that I am on vacation this week and don't have anything significant that is taking up my time...such as the spouse giving me projects other than what I normally have to take care of around the house.

I have to make sure I did something that she deems worthwhile..."worked on stamps all day" just won't cut it so I don't even bother.

This week has been a great week for being stampy. At least stampy at the post office. 6 auction lots came in, along with the Hungarian Postage Dues from tomiseksj , the Ecuador (most at the stampy desk) & Nyassa (which just arrived today) from renden and my Vista Stamps order. Two days for that to arrive! I'll be quite busy on this long weekend I think...

So with all the stamps I have received this week, I decided to get a head start on the long weekend today.
I picked what I needed of the used Germans & then started on Canada. After losing track of these little envelopes of stamps, I finally found them and dug in. They were staring me in my face. I finally found them, and right off the bat there are errors. That's why I stopped ordering from Postbeeld in the Netherlands. That plus high postage rates! 2nd Christmas issue 3¢ olive green. I wanted untagged. It's tagged. I am disappointed to say the least. The 5¢ blue is untagged. It was a pair, placed together. But no one bothered to look. I have at least 7 errors! They are cheap stamps & I'll probably just use them for postage. But sheesh, if you are selling stamps, where is the quality control?
Oh, and the three stamps I had to re-purchase, having had to phone them to ask for no straight edges, were set aside. I don't know which side I set them on now! Why they don't have an form input area to leave a note with the order is beyond me. I had to phone!
Nothing is as it was these days! I hope there aren't any more errors!

I promise, I won't add to this thread for a while. You must be tired of me in here!
A stop at the post office just now revealed yet another package. This time it was two auction lots of Germany. One is of semi-postals from 1984-1990, with a mini-sheet. The other... more used from 1996-2003. I was hoping for a different selection from the other one of the same time period. But alas, it looks exactly the same!
So... next month I'll have an even bigger give away of German stamps, with a few odds & ends added to the mix! Not just one winner, but a few!

I printed pages and mounted stamps from purchases from Stamporama approvals being mostly British Caribbean. St Vincent had some nice unique designs prior to the 1980s or so. I have new countries - Zambia, Tuvalu, New Guinea.

I'm working my way trough an old Norwegian collection bought on holiday. In fact, it was not one collection, but 3 or 4 merged together in an old "clamp" binder. Lot of stamps. There was 16 "skilling" stamps in various condition, a huge lot of early "posthorn" stamps wit " Norway" written in Sans-serif and so on. This take time as i soak of all hinges and put the stamps in my duplicate stock book. I also did find some famous fake postmarks on the Queen Maud stamps of 1939. And there was a lot of Posthorn and Lion stamps from 1938-41 with and without a big V that need's to be identified (watermark). There will be a lot of stamps that I don't need, and some of them will end up as giveaway's. And when I'm not working on that old collection I put stamps up for sale on a Norwegian sale website. It takes time but it cover some of the collecting cost (not all)

It's raining heavily over here. But in spite of that the postman brought 2 packages - Mr. Stan's and also Mr. kosmo - which was a suprise --thanks to both of you again. Kosmo's package - There were no postmarks on the back . Mr.Stan's letter stamps were also not postmarked . Taken over 1 month for both to arrive!!!😮😮😮

I am continuing to work on Greek stamps and made the realization last night that I also have several glassines full of Greek stamps that I completely forgot about in a box on my shelf. My pages are getting fuller and fuller. The 30s through the 60s time period seems to be where I have the most stamps which is also the period where, to me anyway, Greek stamps are the most attractive.

In between trips to the garden to move water, pull weeds, and other such chores, I watermarked all Belgium Medallions, and they are now in framed, unframed, and no watermark envelopes. Also sorted through what i think was an old wax paper sandwich bag labeled "unsorted'... a broad mix of WW and the majority not countries i collect... i see a giveaway in someones' future here soon!

Well this is a trying time for me, I am taking all of my collection to a climate controlled storage unit that will, hopefully, protect it for the foreseeable future. The rest of the house is already in storage My wife and I are heading to Georgia Wednesday to look for a new house in the north east mountains. I’m ready for a slower, quieter pace of life. As long as I’m on a UPS route I’ll be good. Because working on the collection occupies much of my free time I’m a little concerned I’ll loose my mind living in a hotel for an extended period of time. I am thinking of buying a laptop so I won’t be stuck using the tiny phone screen, my eyes don’t work as well as they used to. So for a while I’ll probably be out of touch with much of mankind but when I finally land I’ll post a few pictures of my new to me domain. So until then...

I finished a custom page of Singapore varieties. This is also a test page for the Elmer's Craft Bond glue stick. I used this (dab on back of mount) as an alternative to using moisture. In my very limited trials, the mounts will pop off page without damaging page. After a day or so the adhesive feel reminds me of a post it note so likely limited reattachment ability.

Not so much stamping as I thought I'd do this weekend. The weather is just too nice out!
But at least there was just one boo-boo on my Canadian stamp order. That 3¢ Christmas stamp. Again, it's just a 25¢ stamp, so it'll go on outgoing mail sometime, and it's already in my next order.
I hope to get a bit more done before the long weekend is up. But hey, I am in a 5-year weekend so far! There's no sign of it ending in the foreseeable future!

angore - Nice idea using 'repositionable' glue for mounts. I did not even know such things existed! Inspired by Al's 'repositionable' glue, I found 'repositionable' tape at Staples ( LINK ) - has anyone tried these? If working ok for shifting mounts it would make re-mounting so much easier Anyone?
