One of the things that I collect, but have not sorted in any order yet. are those little gems you sometime get in lots of kiloware that have not suffered at the hands of keen scissors and actually show an entire postmark. I never soak these off . Here are some to illustrate what I mean: I particularly like the piece with the 5/- arms issue, even though it has no CDS but some sort of parcel cancel.

I thought this might be an good place to show these. Found a pile of these 'mutilated stationary', as Rod calls it, in my estate auction win a week or so ago. The collector to great care to cut out the stamp and slogan cancel (obviously the CDS was of no interest to him/her). Leaves me with an interesting collection of cancels from the 1930s and 40s. [BROKEN IMAGE LINK(S) REMOVED] I've included a few extras of these in my donation lot for the upcoming online auction.

The official Page name would read something like "Slogan Postmarks on Mutilated Stationery" Highest ranking saved on cover to enable those whom follow the discipline could estimate dates of use. Possibly two basic types Continuous roller machines (Krag) Trip operated machines ( (1 date CDS and obliterator slogan die) BNAPS possibly has a catalogue of some sort

Do Postmen/women still sell stamps in Canada? I don't think that our Posties ever did in Australia, rod222 would know for sure...I guess.

No, the posties don't sell stamps here anymore. And certainly not in my memory. And the way Canada Post has been working lately, they won't be delivering mail much longer either! Reducing city delivery...'The exercise will be good for them ol' wrinklies!' - I'm paraphrasing, of course.

All kidding aside, mail deliveries still amaze me (but don't tell Australia Post!) - to get a letter delivered from anywhere in Australia to anywhere else in Australia just costs 70c! There are not many things one can buy (that are actually useful) for that price these days.

For the price of a coffee I could jump on a bus then a train and another bus and travel across the city. Still 85 cents to mail a letter in Canada but a whopping $2.50 for international and that's for under 30 grams.

Once upon a time, "2x4" cancellation collections were popular, in the US at least. I've come across kiloware in the past that had many cut corners, measuring approximately 2" x 4", as you'd expect. A quick search turns up some still available. These ones are rather bland, no interesting slogan cancels, mostly machine-cancelled CDS examples (a few duplexes on the Illinois selection, though).
