Somewhere here I've posted an image of the Connell I purchased, be interested in your opinion. If some one can post a link would be appreciated. I'm of the opinion it is indeed a forgery but you would know. When time permits perhaps I can re-post a scan.

I cannot tell much from the picture. However, proofs of Connell on India paper are not uncommon. Auctions regularly sell blocks of 4, 6, 8, 15 in VF condition Forgeries tend to be the wrong color (deep reddish brown) or very crude like this fine example Given that your example looks to be OK and the cut close margins, it would probably be genuine with a value under $100

Thanks for your valued opinion, falschung. and thank you Sir Rod for providing that link. Pretty much what I had thought still considering what a true example of that issue would cost an ideal item to own. I'll keep it. falschung your collection of forgeries must be quite extensive for references to all these issues. Better viewing here than any cable/satellite t.v. network.Plus I learn even at my advanced age. It's all Jack's fault somehow !!(wink wink)

This being a 2015 thread..it is in great need of resuscitation, @falshung - tomiseksj and Al 1 image found on Eastern Auction's website from an auction in 2018 (trying to get the realized price from Gary Lyon) Nicholas Argenti questions the existence of an Imperf Connell but does mention "proofs" might have existed So with Argenti's book ( The Postage Stamps of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) and with Jephcott, Greene and Young's ( The Postal History of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick 1754-1867) and a proper scan of one of Connell's 5 cent stamp....... This should make an nice " article" to submit prior to March for our next newsletter......with stuff that are not on the Web !!! It will be hard to beat those but facts are facts, at least the ones we know about and are referenced !! René

I have to add that I decided not to write an article on Charles Connell or his stamp - RPSC, BNAPS, The Canadian Philatelist have contributedd plenty on the subject, and my two reference books remain the best references, i.e. Argenti and Jephcott et Al : The Postage Stamps of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and The Postal History of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick 1754-1867. If you have not read enough on Connell, you might consider this: René

According to 2019 Ed of the CANADA Unitrade specialized cat. of Canadian Stamps, The New Brunswick plate proofs of the 5 cent Connell is 5P and brown; 5Pi is also brown, wove paper; 5Pii is a light brown proof, thick bond paper; 5Piii is dark brown, (D)red, Type A (23mm X 3mm, serif lettering and other types B,C,D (5Piv,v,vi). Type 5Pvii has a major re-entry (pos. 60) and 5Pviii, a major re-entry (pos. 13) and 5Pix has a major re-entry (pos.61). 5Pviii presents a heavy doubling overall. Other doublings are described. 5TC is orange, no specimen. There also is a 5TCi compound die proof of 5c Connell and 10c Vctoria, in various colors. I do not own any proof of Connell but do for the other New Brunswick issued stamps.
