Can anyone tell the difference between the two? Won what was described as a #51 a while ago at auction and when I compared it to what I thought was a #52, I was stumped.
Here they are. The purported #51 is on the left. Unitrade describes Newfoundland 51 as umber brown, and 52 as violet brown. The colour of 52 is described as generally brighter than the original.
Vagaries of scans and monitor colours aside, these look pretty darn close to me. The stamp on the right may be a little brighter and warmer (more redish) than the other, but...I don't know.
Are there other ways to tell these apart? What do you folks think?
edit - now that I see them on screen, the one of the left looks purplier, or more violet. I JUST DON'T KNOW!!!
