Here's a recent acquisition that has me wondering. This is a folded letter postmarked in Millau, Aveyron France in October of 1893. It bears as 15c blue 1892 stamp, and postmarks on the back from Rodez and Salles la Source, also both in the region of Averyon. Nothing too exciting inside, appears to be a bank statement of some kind, but that will need more research.
What makes me curious is, isn't 1893 a little late to be sending folded letters? I would have thought that envelopes were common and accepted practice by then. Thoughts?
