Can any one i.d. this French stamp for me? I've got several on covers, 10c, 2Fr. Cant seem to see them in the Scott's catalogue. The use of the word FRANCE rather than Français suggests sometime around 1944-45. Are they occupation stamps? Am I looking in the wrong place?

The stamp was listed as Scott 476 in the 2009 catalog -- the design is OS2.
The note after the listing says these stamps were originally intended for use by the Allied Military government but the stamps were transferred to the Free French in July 1944. They were put on sale in liberated areas as the Allied armies advanced and on Oct 9, 1944 they were officially issued in Paris.
Someone with a more recent Scott catalog might be able to provide updated information.

The Allied Military Government stamps were formerly listed in the France BOB section as 2N1-2N20.

Thank you both. If fact, falschung, I have some covers with both versions, so thanks for pointing that out.

Reviving an old thread, but I figured I could help with this one. The Arc de Triomphe series was printed in the USA and put in use by the French government from General de Gaulle as territory was being reclaimed from the Germans in 1944 and 1945. There are two series of ten stamps, the first one has the face value printed in the same colour as the rest of the stamp (YT#620-629), while the second one has the face value printed in black (YT#702-711). Here they are in their full glory.

Nice stamps and an interesting history. Would be quite cool to find them postmarked with various dates, corresponding to the allied advance through France ! Most of mine are either mint or with messy and unreadable postmarks, unfortunately. Thanks for bumping this thread Xavier

Thanks for bumping this thread Xavier Actually, in many cases, local towns used the Vichy France stamps they had in stock, overprinted with local variations of "Libération", "RF", the Lorraine cross which was De Gaulle's emblem, etc... It's a very rich area of French philately. I have a few things I will post. Actual covers from this period can be found, but at hefty prices as they are very sought after! I'll show the few I have (after I feed the kids and put them to bed).

Yes, please do so Xavier. In all my years of collecting only one single stamp of these liberation issues has found its way to my own collection ( and it's probably even a forgery...), so they are not exactly flowing around freely for general collectors 😊 (like myself). Quite sparse, and I dare to say they are more scarce than the Maury catalog price imdicates. Guess one need to do some more specific purchases to obtain them. I am sure many would love to see yours, I certainly would. Get them kids to sleep ...

Fantasy cover by a Paris stamp club, in 1970, featuring the 60c Arc-de-Triomphe issue. Although the postage rate at the time was indeed 60c, these were 60 new centimes, i.e. after the change to the new Franc in 1960, while the original stamp is in old Francs, so this cover is actually under-franked by a factor 100! No wonder it didn't travel.
