Excuses rex , myself I do not recognize the artist or their work in the last two images shared. Perhaps we are not meant to know all and instead, some things are best left to the unknown; items filled with mystery, magick and a bit of awe, the stuff that keeps us collectors going ;-) The man in the painting that you use as your avatar does remind me though of one of my mentors as a young person, albeit a slimmer version... Happy collecting!

I chose it as an avatar, but I don't know the author of this either.. This one is entitled "Il filatelista" (or maybe "Il filatelico", I've seen both!) by the Armenian-Italian artist Gregorio Sciltian (far more info in the Italian Wikipedia page). His obituary in American papers called this his most famous painting. Have a look at this Unificato journal Storie di Posta for an Italian-language article on him (hopefully the link isn't geoblocked for anybody, these Google Books links are unreliable around the world). And try this online PDF catalogue from a Harmers Auctions sale for what might be an image with better resolution for your collection (page 12, in case my attempt at linking a page number in the URL doesn't work out). It is all good rex , the images stand on their own and make for a compelling display or exhibit, "The Art of Collecting" The paintings would be a welcome addition to the walls of any stamp room and I can only imagine being surrounded by surrogate TSFers... Thanks for sharing and happy collecting!

Surely all of us would like to find something similar in grandma's attic... Victorian art. rex These are amazing. My knowledge of British illustrated envelopes stops with Mulreadies and parodies. I had no idea this was an industry that continued for decades after. One thing they share is lack of pity for postmen. They could only have hated them. Some look hand drawn (Mr Whaite, Isle of Mann). Others are very nicely done, with cross hatching (a sign somebody went to art school) and look like engravings. Sold commercially maybe? What’s the story with these?
Also, clicking on your scans leads to ‘imgbb’? That’s true for a lot of scans displayed on TSF, but not all. None of mine, for example. What are is that?

Thanks for your nice words kasvik , I guess all of them are hand drawn and I don't think they were issued by a postal authority. They have been in my phone for a long time and I don't remember which site I downloaded them from..

A letter from well-known precancel stamp dealer Adolf Gunesch of Chicago, utilizing an Art Deco style. Art Deco, sometimes referred to as art for the masses, extended into printing, stamps & cachets, jewelry and furniture design, household appliances, and even industrial design such as airplanes, cars and locomotives, i.e. the streamliners.
