Stamps and covers of the classic Zeppelin era have always been one of my favorites. I would like to see what other members have in this area. To get it started here are my non-US zeppelin stamps.

Azerbaijan 1995 800 manat wiki Dr. Hugo Eckener (10 August 1868 – 14 August 1954) was the manager of the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin during the inter-war years, and also the commander of the famous Graf Zeppelin for most of its record-setting flights, including the first airship flight around the world, making him the most successful airship commander in history. He was also responsible for the construction of the most successful type of airships of all time. An anti-Nazi who was invited to campaign as a moderate in the German presidential elections, he was blacklisted by that regime and eventually sidelined. Cinderella (Not mine) poss LB1? To the best of my knowledge, this Scott C18 (October 2, 1933) is the only Zeppelin that I have -- but I'll thumb through the worldwide albums to see if there are others.

All 3 of the overprinted German Zeppelin sets (scott C38-45) were privately reprinted in large numbers. These reprints are easy to distinguish from the originals if you know what to look for. The reprints have "Privater Nachdruck" stamped on the reverse ON TOP OF the gum. This print can easily be removed by removing the gum. The best way to tell these apart is by the clarity of the printing of the globe. The UK and the tip of Norway & Sweden are clearly visible on the originals but barely, if at all, visible on the reprints. The originals are comb perforated. The reprints in the scan appear to be line perforated. Comments with appreciation from Mr. Blair Stannard, and Mr. Jay Carrigan.

That's darned discerning of you stampgeezer, They have a strange attraction, beautiful to see flying, but I can never really dispel the sight of that burning Hindenburg from my memory, and the fact people were flying with that vast amount of Hydrogen above them. Still, modern astronauts soar on it.

They say that the new Zeppelins have figured that out...
Maybe not too surprising that they are now targeted as cargo ships, rather than passenger ships?

rod222 & cjd - I have flown on a Zeppelin NT, the airship Eureka when it came to Paine field in Everett, WA in 2010. My avatar is a picture of that airship that I took. The ship is semi-rigid so is not a true dirigible. It uses helium for lift and can carry 12 passengers plus 2 crew. That 45 minute flight was wonderful. for a zeppelin enthusiast. Alas, the company, Airship Ventures, went broke so the ship probably will not fly again. There is another in Germany that still flies. I also see that Goodyear is in the process of replacing their blimps with actual airships. link

SG, I had looked quizzically at your avatar, thanks for enlightening us. Curious, what do they carry in the way of emergency items in the cab, if any? What was the cost of the flight?

Emergency? I never even thought about it, and I cannot tell you if they spoke of it. I really do not like to fly, but to me this was not the same thing. I believe it cost about $600 for us to take a 45 minute flight. Paine field is also host to 2 classic warbird museums and as the Eureka was starting to descend to the field, 2 P51 mustangs, in formation flew beside us for a bit. It was quite a day.

Here is a souvenir cover from Germany celebrating 20 years of re-unification. The original Zeppelin NT is shown in a flight over the Brandenburg Gate in 2010. The Cinderella at the top commemorates the Graf Zeppelin South America flight in 1930. I could not find a translation for Bordsiegel Marke.

Here are some classic Zepps that have not yet been shown. Most of these exsist in sets of the same type. Instead of showing all of a certain type I'm just showing one.

antoniusra, that is impressive. The Lichtenstein and Paraguay issues are very attractive, to me. Well done! It must have taken a while to obtain all these.

The Liechtenstein and the Italy at bottom are my favorites. Lots of neat stamps there, but the Liechtenstein and Italy are wonderful. The Liechtensteins are great designs.

I would imagine that most people think that Germany produced the most Zeppelin stamps but it isn't so. Unless some Trucial state, African independent state, some late SA countries or starving Island nations (which for the most part I, personally, consider as uncollectible wall paper ie. garbage) has more, it would be Paraguay. As best I can figure, Paraguay has the most with at least 27, which include 5 regular issues. Russia comes in 2nd with at least 21, while Germany looks to have 16. These include stamps with either pic of Zepp or overprint. It was quite agonizing pulling these stamps from my albums to scan. My albums are within arms reach in fireproof safes but I've had a pinched nerve in my back for 8 days now (which is a record) any movement at all is not good. The reason I'm telling this is that I cannot look any farther so there may even be a country that has more but I cannot think of one. Here is a page and a half of Russian Zepps that have not been shown. They are some of the kewlest Zepps but how can you not love the Polar Bear issues Note: My Russian collection is one of the few countries I have that are not on the Scott Specialty pages. It consists of 3 volumes up to 1990 and out of the 7,000 or so was missing 25. It seems a collector from Germany handmade albums for the entire world, a task I cannot see one person doing. Out of all the collections I was able to win the Russian and Mongolian. The Mongolian is packed but I have never got around to scanning it. Unfortunately it is missing the pricey and scarce early sets.

Just realized that last post may have seemed a bit outdated in reference to "pulling those stamps" because I wrote it a couple days ago. I was having computer problems that would not let me post. I just realized I totally forgot Argentina that also beats out Germany by one with 17. Here is a sampling because it's all I have of these illusive little buggers. All the Argentinian Zepps consisted of various overprints to the great first issue below

antoniusra and PostmasterGS, I really enjoyed your stamps. I was not aware that Paraguay & Argentina exceeded Germany in number of issues, during the classic era. I have non of the Cinderella items, at least not yet.
