Firstly, please excuse me if this is in the wrong place but I can't find a topic for technical queries.
I have been testing the posting of images and would like to know if there is a preferred maximum width of screen images. Now I use a wide 19 inch monitor, so I'm not sure if members with smaller screens are have difficulty viewing wider images.
In one of my tests, I used an image 944 pixels wide which displays fine to me. Is this about right, could it be wider, should it be smaller?

The image you posted at 944Px is really as big as needed. Too big and many viewers will have to scroll the image which is not productive When you post the image in your preview and it looks too big you can also left click on it and a frame appears which allows you to manually resize the image The viewer can then click on it and see the original size You can try it on your picture above that I resized by right clicking and going to "view image" Welcome & post more

Firstly, please excuse me if this is in the wrong place but I can't find a topic for technical queries. Anping, if you look under the heading "IT Computer Help", you will find threads which deal with questions on posting images, image-sharing sites, scanning of images, etc. I think that this is the area you are looking for. I hope this helps!

the preview button. I have attempted to preview all of my posts so far and there is no response - nothing happens. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. Doesn't work for me either. Either that's the way it works or I need IT help. The mod will know.

Unlike on Stamporama, where the preview shows above the post you're creating, the "preview" on Proboards forums shows in the preview tab. If you create a post in the BBCode tab and then select the preview tab, you will see what the post is going to look like once you click on the "Create Post" button. If you create in the preview tab and insert an image or some BB coding, you will have to toggle to the BBCode tab and back to Preview in order to see the image or special effects.

Ah! It's getting a little clearer. But can I preview all text settings and image links within that BBCode box?

While in the BBCode tab you will see all of the links and forum code. Toggle back to the preview tab and you'll see the effects of that code and/or the image that has been linked.

This is a 'beside the point' question for the moderator and anyone else able to help. I have noticed couple members posting images with 'click to expand format'. Does this save server space for TSF and how do I do it to my uploads?

Malam ( oldpapercollect ), If the image below is an example of what you are referring to, that is what Proboards refers to as an attachment. The forum initially used this method to upload images; however, we quickly exceeded our allocation and the cost to purchase additional storage was beyond our capability at that time. That prompted us to pursue third party hosting options. Members are no longer allowed to add attachments to posts so you would not be able to do it for your uploads. I hope that answers your questions.

On an italian forum i just wrote about using google drive as an image host site... To upload an image on google drive is not that difficult, well, more difficult respect to other image hosting site, but not so much. I have created a folder for all the images i post on forums, assigned the condivision rule "everyone who has got the link", then just upload the image directly or throught the google drive client. To obtain the link there is the command "obtain the link" (something like, i have it in italian), but then if you post it on the forum, the image doesn't appear immediately... The link must be modified as:
"http://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=" + image code extracted from the link
The image code is a big string like:
0B83t6T57-0ACUWdJdWdaYVpPdTVvRHIxNEk1MmhhUkR1dUI4
which must be extracted from the link copied. I don't know if there is a way to obtain it immediately, normally i do it by hand...
Easy things gone complicated? Could seems, but google drive has a lot of extra efforts... You can manage all of your images, modify, retrieve, delete... You can do the character recognition on the images you load... i.e. upload a scan of a german newspaper, obtain the plain text, passing it to the translator... The link doesn't expire... Just need some practice.

I have a question on posting images from tsfimage host
I noticed if I use "Upload Images" function (associated with tsfuimage host) and you upload more than 1 image at a time the link added to the message is usually just the first one of the batch.
Is there a way to upload multiple images at once and also have all the links auto inserted into the message?
StampBears uses a similar image host and the upload process and defaults seem more streamlined. It is easy to get links.
Is there a image size limit (aggregate)?

When I want to upload more than one image I click on BBCode at the bottom of the page. This will allow you to upload multiple images. The links will all land consecutively so if you wish to put one of the links into another place in your post you can simply move. Use the 'review' tab to check you have moved/are moving the correct image. If my aggregate image size is too big, as has happened on one or two occasions, the system will tell you and you won't be able to upload more. Steve ( tomiseksj) is better equipped to tell you more if needs be. Londonbus1

My example was the Cook Islands post. I uploaded multiple files at once but only one was added to the thread so I have to go back and copy over the bbc codes. Switching to BBCode view first seemed to work as shown below. It is interesting that the BBCcode for first two images is slightly different than last. After img the style= if first tag and the last has src as first tag.

are you selecting "Upload Images"? If so, try "Add image to post"
PS do not use Quick Reply, instead Reply (at very top of thread

You will need to have a separate account on the TSF ImageHost - it's not the same account as your normal TSF forum account. Contact tomiseksj or Admin and request an image hosting account, and Steve (the forum's administrator) will set it up for you. Ryan

Thank you for your help! Just to confirm that this is how we post images here, right? You don't upload the image directly, do you? Thanks, Thales

Yes, Thales ( ausbrasilien ), that's correct. You don't upload anything directly onto the Forum. The images are posted from an image-hosting site.

I thought the system had changed and we could upload images directly on to the board. If that's not the case, I am very disappointed. Gillian

Thanks for your post, gillian. I am sorry if you are feeling disappointed, but actually the current system is a fine improvement over the old one. It used to be that each member had to find his/her own image-hosting site, and then use that to post images on TSF. Then we had the big PhotoBucket meltdown when PB started charging fees to maintain accounts, and then started blocking the images of those who hadn’t paid. Now TSF has its own image-hosting site, which is free to members, and will not result in the same problems with losing images. We owe big thanks to Steve ( Admin) for making this happen. It makes TSF a stronger site, as a result.

I have a question about the TSF image host's handling of uploaded images.
For example in my Souvenir page thread I uploaded an image today for the 8 cent Yellowstone and noticed like others that the image did not look the same as original image. I felt there was a loss of contrast so I downloaded the image back from the posted image.
Comparison of images: Image before uploading: 1200x1580 301.8KB Downloaded image from host: 1024x1348 396KB
I assume the width change is to get to a common width for best presentation but curious about other changes. In the host, one sees full, medium, thumbnail links but does not mention changes to say quality.
Why did the size increase? A reduction in pixels should make a smaller file.
Does the image host reduce image quality in the process as well?
Net, is there some ideal size, etc?. to upload without changes? For example I am guessing the ideal width is 1024 but does the uploader evaluate size or other factors?

Al ( angore ), I wish I could answer all of your questions but much is beyond my understanding. The maximum image size on the TSF Image Host is set at 1024 x 1400. Larger images will automatically be downsized. As to why the file size got larger when you downloaded the image, I don't know what to tell you. I just downloaded the " engraved vs. offset" image I recently posted and the uploaded (538kb) and downloaded (538kb) file sizes were the same. The original image width had been set at 1084 so no resizing took place in the host. Perhaps the change in file size was a result of that process. I'll have to experiment a bit to see if that assumption is valid. Should that prove the case, then, perhaps, the "ideal" size would be an image width of 1084 or below. [EDIT: So much for that idea. See this test.]
