I am confused by what is meant by Newfoundland early stamps with (and without) mesh. If someone could explain it to me I would be very appreciative. I bought this stamp as a scott #1. thanks, Theron.

When I hold this stamp up to the light, it is semi-transparent. Does that make it a 15a???

Thanks Rod! When the sun shines again, I will test my stamp against the sunlight, using my 3x reading glasses with my 10x magnifying glass.

Well, I still cannot see a mesh, so any opinions on this stamp will be much appreciated.

From a source that I consider very knowledgeable I now believe the stamp shown is in fact genuine and is most likely a Scott #1.

Very Good! I also received information from a source (Don't know if it is the same one! ), and that helped me sort out the 1/15A puzzle. There are some stamps that just require a "little help from friends" to figure out.

jkjblue, that particular friend is a most valued friend. I am going to Oregon (Beaverton to Lincoln City then back to Beaverton) next week. Any stamp dealers you might recommend?

Stampgeezer No and yes. Stamp Art, who carries the largest WW stock in Oregon, lives in Lincoln City. But he travels nationally to stamp shows, and so is not at home much. Also, he is not set up for visitors at his home usually. But, you could email him anyway to see if he is available.
