What I collect: Worldwide Stamps, Ephemera and Catalogues

Admin : May we have a sub forum for "AUSTRIA" please? I am a passionate fan of the Danish TV series "BORGEN" It is, in my opinion, the best ever produced in the world, featuring politics. In one episode Kasper Juul gives his friend Katrine a model of The Venus of Willendorf I try and get a screen capture on my computer, all I get is a black image, any IT professionals explain why? I know Austria produced a Stamp of the venus, anyone have a copy? I believe it revolves Please post if you do.

Simply press that and a copy of your screen will be placed on your clipboard. Then you run your image editing program, and there should be a "paste" command in an edit menu. That should restore the image. Ryan

Hmmm, interesting. I just checked YouTube, Vimeo, the BBC and a couple of other news sites that use their own player, and all of them work fine for me with the PrintScreen button when loading the clipboard into Microsoft Paint. I can't guess where your problem might be - in the video player, in the image editor, or in the operating system?

Ryan Here's what you need to do. #1. go to the windows menu #2. go to accessories #3. choose the SNIPPING TOOL (it is usually identified as a red pair of scissors) #4. click on it #5. use it like a cropping tool to crop out whatever you want of the screen in front of you. #6. save it to your pictures file (I think it dose that automatically anyway) This will work for even videos.

I use the snipping tool a lot as well - it's in the quick launch bar on my system. When using that for videos, it freezes the screen while the video continues playing in the background (unseen, but you can still hear it). With the PrintScreen button, the video continues to play in the foreground, so I have the option of pressing the PrintScreen button multiple times to get the image I want. That just updates the contents of the clipboard to hold whatever was on the screen the last time I pressed the button. But I still can't guess why that would fail in Rod's case. Must have something to do with video card memory addressing or something like that. Hmmm, try a bit of googling .... Well, I was close. It's probably a hardware graphic acceleration issue, with the hardware then mapping the video to a different memory space. Have a look at this page, or try searching for "video capture black screen" if this doesn't give you enough info. pixelmetrics.com/Tips/VidBlank/index.phpRyan

Thanks Ryan, shall try your fix. Thanks ILS, Windows XP does not have a "snipping tool" BTW I use Fastone Capture, and it has never failed capturing anything before.

Here's a short description of the fix, specific to Windows XP. Note that turning off your hardware acceleration will likely hurt performance. If you're watching in a small window, it might not be a problem. But trying to watch a video in full screen without any hardware acceleration on an older computer would be "bery bery no good", as one of my Japanese friends would say ... thedesignspace.net/MT2archives/000154.html#.UguRPpLVCSpRyan edit - Rod can solve his problem faster than I can type up a solution ....

I try and get a screen capture on my computer, all I get is a black image, any IT professionals explain why? That's the way it goes because video is presented in so called 'video overlay/interlacing' which goes on top of the actual screen image. If you want a screenshot of the video, you have to use the tools most media/video players provide. I know Austria produced a Stamp of the venus, anyone have a copy? I believe it revolves Please post if you do. I have a used copy It's really one of the most amazing stamps to look at because each direction/angle provides a different (very realistic) view.

The Snipping Tool was not a feature that was native to XP. XP users have/had to go with a third-party add-on.

Quite a few Danish shows are good to watch. I have seen Borgen and liked it. The Killing and Wallander (the original Danish, but the remake UK one is also good) are good shows too IMO.

Glad you liked Fastone capture, I have employed it for 5 years or so, ne'er a glitch till now. What I love about Fastone is the "rolling capture". Heads up : after turning off "video acceleration" for just the one type of video capture for moi, I turned it back on, because "rolling capture" became slow under Fastone. and yes, those pics from Borgen Katrine's appreciation...or not ?

Three-Dimensional Venus, 22.07.2008 22.07.2008 Introducing our three-dimensional "Venus of Willendorf" on a miniature sheet! The new stamp will be issued on 8 August 2008. She is merely 11 centimetres high and approximately 25,000 years old: the famous "Venus of Willendorf", found in the village of Willendorf located in the Wachau region. 7 August 2008 is the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the "Venus of Willendorf". Austrian Post is honouring this very special occasion with a unique stamp. For the first time ever, a three-dimensional stamp has been produced. Thanks tot his new three-dimensional miniature sheet by Austrian Post, one of Austria's most important archaeological discoveries comes to life and takes centre stage. As many as 80 (!) individual photos have been used for this picture, which required a precise production process, maximum concentration, a lot of experience and an important amount of equipment. testing gif image
