I'm faced with too much philatelic material (primarily covers but also some stamps). I would like to donate several large boxes of these and make sure that it is given to a tax deductible organization. I'm preparing to send up to $5000 worth to the APS but probably will still have more to donate and don't want to go through the hassle of appraisals for all of this. I know that the covers are each worth a minimum of $1 and some up to $25 (I sell on Ebay and can do my own appraisal),. So I plan to spread the donations out to different organizations.
Any ideas on what other qualified tax deductible organizations I can donate to? I also have thousands of postcards as well to donate. I'm not getting rid of everything, just trying to be reasonable with what I keep and want to share what I've accumulated over the years?
Thanks...Mike

This won't apply to you since you're in the US, but I thought I'd pop this note in here, in case any other Canadians should see the thread in the future. Oxfam Canada runs a stamp program which sells donated stamps, with the funds received then going to various Oxfam projects. Amounts are modest but donations are always appreciated, I'm sure. Ryan

Goodwill sells stamps and covers via online auction so they are one option for you to consider. Thanks for this great piece of info, Steve! I have shopped at brick-and-mortar Goodwill stores for years, never seeing any philatelic items, and absolutely never knowing that they run their own auction site! I spent some time looking at their lots yesterday and may end up bidding on a couple of things if the prices remain reasonable. Anyway, many thanks!

I picked up a Stamps for the Wounded brochure while at NAPEX yesterday and thought it fitting to add its content to this thread. I encourage everyone to consider donating to this worthy endeavor or to a similar one if you live outside of the U.S. I'm trying to fill a box now and, once complete, will send it along as a donation from The Stamp Forum.

Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library is a perfect place for your donation. It is non-profit organisation and is eligible to receive tax-deductible donations. Donors may deduct the fair market value of their gift as a charitable contribution on their income tax return. So, you are welcome.

You can always auction a few items here for donations to The Stamp Forum.
