I'm pleased to report that APS has finally moved its Articles of Distinction page from the old (i.e., classic) site to the new one. Sadly, they still haven't added our 2020 submission -- I'll wait until the end of the month before I inquire, once again.

BNAPEX 2021 Virtual September 2-6Members of the British North America Philatelic Society (BNAPS) collect all aspects of the stamps and postal history of Canada and its Provinces and Territories before Confederation. BNAPS has been APS Affiliate 144 since 1986, and since about 2016 has contributed $1000US annually to the APS Youth Program. When Covid-19 restrictions forced cancellation of the 2021 convention scheduled for Winnipeg, Manitoba, BNAPS decided to “Go Virtual”. The result, BNAPEX 2021 Virtual, opens on Thursday, 2 September. Convention Registration for BNAPEX 2021 Virtual is NOW OPEN to everyone, not just BNAPS members. Access to the convention is FREE, but easy online registration is required. Members and non-members should go to bnaps.org/, click on the “BNAPEX” tab and then the “REGISTRATION” tab, and follow the instructions.. For more information about the show, click here.

I did learn that the online version of the APRL newsletter is free to APS members. A recent issue had an update on the AP catalog issue with an article on the Stanley Gibbons catalog and more specialty catalogs. I did not consider any of the major catalog articles to be critical but just information. The website has a link to a list of specialty catalogs by country although it is very incomplete. stamps.org/home/catalog-reference-hub

I wonder if this is due to lingering COVID on traveling, higher transportation costs or other factors. If going always online the restriction to a specific time opens a lot more opportunities.

Artist for Pony Cars Stamps Will Be at GASSThe Pony Cars Forever stamps pop with bright detailed artwork created especially for the stamps by award-winning motor specialist artist Tom Fritz, of California. Sun appears to glisten off shiny fenders and bumpers as the cars speed along open roads. Click here to read Jeff Stage’s Q-and-A with Pony Cars stamp artist Tom Fritz about the process of creating the artwork for the stamps and other projects.

APS has a membership drive where you can get a copy of the Encyclopedia of United States stamps. This is a good reference on various topics. stamps.org/join-nowScott English has also floated a proposal for some merging of APS and ASDA. While there can be collaboration between collaboration collectors and dealers I am concerned about dealers affecting the core beliefs. The discussion is important since show dealers end up covering the cot of shows. I am in favor of entrance fees and increased charges for exhibitors and societies given the space they occupy. stamps.org/news/c/news/cat/aps-news/post/uniting-the-hobby-a-merger-of-the-aps-and-the-asdaThere is also new arrangement with APS and Hipstamp to move the APS Stamp Store operation to Hipstamp.

October Book Sales Happening Now10/3/2022 What better way to celebrate National Stamp Collecting Month than by adding to your philatelic library? This month, both members and non-members can enjoy 50% off shipping to anywhere in the world while shopping the APRL's Used Book Inventory. Members and non-members can purchase materials (prepayment is required before shipping). To see the current selection of books in the Used Book Inventory, go to the online catalog: 1549.sydneyplus.com/final/Portal.aspx and click on the “Used Books for Sale” tab at the top of the landing page. For more information about the APRL, visit the library page. In addition, APS has some great deals in their publications shop. EDIT: I just checked the inventory -- there are 18 pages of titles covering an array of subjects that are available for purchase.
