So after much trial and tribulations I am happy to announce that I shall be attending said exhibition. It has been a long time since I have been to such a show I look forward to it and maybe meeting up with some TSF people. I will try to get some photos and report on my observations of the show. If any body wants me to look for something for them I shall see what I can do for them. Cheers!

If jkjblue and coastalcollector can make it too, then you will be able to have a regular TSF Oregon Chapter meeting--pretty cool!

We are on grandchild watch- due date is in several days. All plans are in flux. For the stamp hobby, I may or may not be able to attend PIPEX.

Just a brief note to report that I was able to attend PIPEX for a couple of hours yesterday. I wish that I had been able to spend longer, but a couple of hours is better than nothing.
Most of that was spend slowly making my way through the exhibitions. There was so much good stuff there, but in particular "Boer POW Camps in Ceylon 1900 - 1902" by Michael Dixon was pure class. A cursory search confirms that he has done other similar exhibitions, and I hope that some of his work is online.

So, tridentcrazy, were you able to attend the show in the end? If you were, how was it? We'd love to hear about your experience....

As it happens I was able to attend the show on Saturday. I arrived around Noon so I had a limited time (just 6 hours) with which to see everything. I will start by saying the exhibits were in a word GREAT! From the pre-postal courier covers of Poland and Galacia to the scouting issues. To judge those exhibit must have been difficult to be sure. One that caught my eye was the coils of Ireland from 1920-1921 simply amazing. As a specialized collector the dealer bourse was as usual an exercise in futility for my primary interest. Except for one dealer who specialized in Russia and the former soviet states. What I saw at that table was well worth the trip. Every once in a while you see some stamps in a catalogue and say to yourself I will never see those well...... I saw some of those at that table. Met and talked to a gentleman who was starting to collect the Russian civil war era stamps. He asked some questions and I answered best I could. He took notes and may be joining our forum in the near future. Overall the show was well put together/organized. The exhibits were top notch, I could have spent the day just in that area alone. It was well attended by dealers both local and from afar. The only thing that saddened me was the average age of the attendees I wish I had seen more younger people attending, That trend has been going that way for many years now though.

I likewise will give a report. There was great joy in the larger family, as a new grandchild was born Wednesday May 10th. !!! Of course first priority were visits to Portland, OR Wednesday-Thursday, Saturday-Sunday. (We live two hours away.) That left Friday. I found time between 12-2 to visit PIPEX - of course, way too short, but much better than no visit at all. I took a look at an eight volume Minkus Supreme WW collection to be auctioned that Sunday by Harmer-Schau. It had "tens of thousands" of stamps, but amazing how comparatively empty the album pages appear when spread out over eight large binders. I also imagined the look on my long suffering better half if I hauled all those massive volumes into the stamp den (aka extra bedroom). I took a pass. Then I had a short time to visit several dealers (Gary Tiffen, David Markowitz, Jaffe-Brookman), mainly to check for country collections. I came home with Iceland (classic- mid-century), Cambodia (mid-century), Argentina (mid-century), and Indonesia (mid-century) collections- mostly on Scott Specialty or Minkus Country pages. I also picked up some George VI sets. No time for want lists.
