I mentioned in a recent post about examples of one persons mail making the journey through various collections over the years, only to be reunited in one place... thestampforum.boards.net/thread/4713/united-states-amos-lawrenceWell it seems it's happened again. Searching through a box of American covers today, looking for something I naturally couldn't find, I came across an envelope with a familiar name. H.E. Deats of Flemington NJ. The letter was mailed by Mr Deats, or his company to the local Waterworks in nearby Cedarville in 1906, only to be returned, it appears. A search through my albums revealed this page...
You may or may not remember (or care) that the cover on this page was posted exactly a year ago on my Niagara covers thread... thestampforum.boards.net/thread/3181/early-niagara-covers?page=2Look about halfway down. That thread includes a link to Mr Deats' bio. He was a prominent and wealthy businessman and avid philatelist and numismatist. One can only assume that if the American cover was returned to him, he saved it with all the rest of his correspondence, which were dispersed after his death in 1963. Now they are back together here in my basement. Circle of life!?

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

I'll add a bit here - the reference book James mentions in his write-up, "An Historical Reference List of the Revenue Stamps of the United States Including the Private Die Proprietary Stamps", is available in its 1899 edition in .PDF format on the revenue-collector.com website. Ryan
