Greetings! This post is putting my theory that TSF is the best, friendliest, gentlest, most supportive stamp forum going. Don't let me down! 1. I mentioned over in the Sweden area how Beryllium Guy sent me a cool package of stamps in the mail a couple of weeks back. In the mail because we were supposed to meet up near Westpex and weren't able to figure out a time that worked. 2. Along with that event, I've been watching a lot of videos lately about another old hobby of mine: sports cards. There's a lot more videos out there of people sharing their sportscard purchases, trades, collections etc. I seem to be spending a lot of time watching them with interest, and am even considering re-entering that hobby. 3. And along with that, I have wanted to get my feet wet with video editing and production. Primarily to produce some 'how to bake awesome bread' videos but also to add some friendly 'how to collect stamps' videos. SO: I combined all three things and made an 'mail day' video where I open Beryllium Guy's package and go through everything he sent. It just went up to the YouTube this afternoon. If you're interested at all (and I completely get it if you are totally disinterested), the video is here: Enjoy! Mark PS: I put a plug in for TSF at the end. In hindsight, I should've done that at the beginning! PPS: Since it's the first video I've ever done like this, I have around 100 ideas about how to make 'Episode 2' better. Not least of which is better, more stable close ups and a better camera mount (this was an iPhone balanced on a box.) But it was fun.

Mark,
That's a neat little video there. Surprisingly good visual quality and the sound was nice and clear. You've got a pretty good voice over style.
(From somebody that used to film, edit and sound mix videos in the 90's; S-VHS, Hi-8)
Just work on some cutaways (if you can do that on those infernal I-Phones).

Mark Your video was quite enjoyable, and thanks to Chris for being so generous with the stamps sent. Do more of them! You mentioned that you collect WW up to about 1975.. Which album or storage system do you use? I thought I detected a north of the border accent. Correct? Jim

Thanks! Anping: I shall google Cutaways and then figure out how to put them in. And thanks for the kind words about my voice. It's strange to hear it through speakers Thanks zipper! Jim ( jkjblue): For sure I will do more. I had quite a lot of fun putting this together. It's a testament to 'just do it'. I thought about making stamp videos for months before just grabbing my phone and doing the darn thing. My storage system will likely be my next video(s). How I go from a packet to the albums. Short answer is a combination of Vario pages and Steiner pages. And yes, that's a 'northern' accent, although I don't hear it. Western Canadian. Specifically, Southern Saskatchewan "bohunk". Mark

I mentioned over in the Sweden area how Beryllium Guy sent me a cool package of stamps in the mail a couple of weeks back. In the mail because we were supposed to meet up near Westpex and weren't able to figure out a time that worked. First of all, Mark, I want to apologize, as I had not gotten around to watching this video until today, and I had no inkling that it was about the package that I sent you! What a cool thing to do, making a video of opening your mail. You are clearly a very creative guy! I am glad that the stamps and related material all arrived in good condition, but I noted that the stamps themselves did not stay in the stock card very well. I suppose that I should have foreseen that. This was the first time that I ever sent items in a stock card, but I can now see the major drawback to that plan. I hope that nothing got damaged from falling out of the stock card. You had mentioned in a post a few months back that a bunch of stamps sent to you by bobby1948 all got stuck together because the package had gotten wet, and Mark Jochim also mentioned problems with stamp packages getting wet. So, I have decided from now on to use water-tight plastic bags whenever I ship stamps. That way, in case the package gets wet, the stamps will stay dry. The plastic food storage bags are inexpensive, too, so it is a simple, cheap solution to the problem. Well, "better late than never" as they say! Great video, Mark, thanks again for making it and posting it!

Thank you for this video. You provided nice idea to screen similar videos, just to protect myself from different misunderstandings and confusions (due to the bad packaging) with the seller. Good luck and I am really waiting for your next videos.

The plastic food storage bags are inexpensive, too, so it is a simple, cheap solution to the problem. Ironically, I just received Chris' package today as well, plus just read this thread (and viewed the video) for the first time. I wish I'd seen this thread BEFORE I'd opened the package as I would have tried to make a similar video. I really appreciated that Chris had enclosed the stamps within a Zip-Loc baggie and everything stayed dry. The envelope actually arrived on the worst rainy day we've had this monsoon season; however, it was delivered around 8 in the morning when the sky was still clear... I usually cut down on stamp mail orders during the monsoon season which usually lasts from May through November; but it never ended last year: almost daily storms since April 2016!! My mail carrier is getting better at dealing with the rain -- he just doesn't venture out if the sky looks threatening so it can be a while before anything arrives (mail carriers use very small motorbikes with vinyl saddle-bags. Well done on the video! Gives inspiration to the rest of us...

One trick I like to use is to always fold over a little flap at the end of each piece of tape whenever I'm taping anything (for example, taping a glassine envelope flap closed, or taping a glassine to a thin piece of card for stiffening). That way the receiver has something to pull on to make it easier to get into anything that's been taped. I've received stuff in the past that is so well packaged and so taped up that I don't know how I'll ever get into it without bending or cutting whatever might be hidden inside.

It really only takes a little bit of consideration to make packaging a stress free experience. That, and the use of low-tack tape which doesn't grab at everything in its path; if possible.
