NAPEX 2017, an APS World Series of Philately show, is being held in the DC Metro Area at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner from June 9-11.
The show is presented by the National Philatelic Exhibitions of Washington, D.C. and will host national conventions of five entities: Collectors Club of New York, France and Colonies Philatelic Society, Ottoman and Near East Philatelic Society, Society for Czechoslovak Philately and Bermuda Collectors Society.
The show's bourse has about 80 dealers along with representation from the USPS, UN Postal Administration, and Israel Philatelic Agency of North America.
The UN conducted a first day ceremony for the six stamps it issued to commemorate World Environment Day. The stamps showcase the beauty of Canada's landscape and a representative from the Embassy of Canada was the principal speaker at that event.
Lastly, there are 46 philatelic exhibits occupying more than 230 frames.
I only had a 5-hour window during which to visit the show and half of that time was spent at meetings with the APS representatives and attending the UN Ceremony. The remainder of my time was spent looking at the exhibits.
The image below is intended to give you a sense of the size of the show and how well it was attended. Please bear in mind that these images (except for the UN stamps at lower right) were taken prior to noon on Friday (the opening day of the show).
The images in the top row show most of the dealer booths that were located in the International Ballroom.
The center row of images, from left to right, are the show entrance, a view of booths in the Atrium, and a shot from the International Ballroom entrance looking back toward the NAPEX Information table.
The bottom row, from left to right, are a portion of the exhibits in the Continental Ballroom, exhibits in the Beverly Room, and the UN World Environment Day 2017 stamps.
