Hello everyone, I just joined today. I have been looking for a good stamp forum for a while and I was recommended this one by a friend earlier today. I liked what I saw and joined up.
I can't guarantee I'll be a regular member/contributor but I will pop in as often as I can.
I've been collecting stamps on and off since I was a little kid, I would guess around 1991 or 1992 is when I really first started. Most of my collection, however, is from the 50s and 60s, as my mom gave me all of hers. I have comparatively little from post-1974 until around 1992, then some from every year between then and now.
The majority of my additions come from cutting the corners off of envelopes, and the vast majority are cancelled. Most of my collection is USA, because of ease of acquisition. I like everything, and I will collect anything I can get my hands on...but I don't really know very much about the hobby. I did buy myself a Scott book so I was at least able to figure out when my US collection was issued. Even though I've been around the hobby peripherally for a long time now I'm still really mostly clueless and would class myself as a beginner.
About me...I live in the Hudson Valley of NY...I'm a big history fan, especially ancient history...I love the NBA, NHL and NASCAR...I build scale models, the majority of which are of NASCAR cars but I build a little of everything...I write multiple blogs (but none yet on stamps, as I don't feel I know enough to do a proper job of writing them up). I am at heart a collector, and I've been collecting various things since I was a kid...trading cards are my #1 collection, but I also collect comic books, coins and currency, and 1/64 diecast cars. I also collect history books and magazines. Former collector of action figures. With all that said, I have very little money to spend on my hobbies due to my health issues, which are many, and the costs of the medicine that keeps me alive has seriously cut down on my hobbies- it's not uncommon for me to go for more than a year without adding anything new to some of them, as an example, it's been about 3 years since I added anything to the world currency collection.
I tend to prefer "quantity over quality" but to me, quantity IS quality, in every single one of my hobbies. I'd rather have a dozen cheap things than one more expensive thing, LOL.
I also enjoy photography, I've maintained my photography website since 2004, linked in my profile.
Most of my time is spent documenting the collections I've built up when things (health) was better.
I am slowly working on scanning my stamp collection. I spend more time with my trading card collection, but I do work on my stamps from time to time as well, and I'm kind of hoping that taking part on this forum will spur me on to work on scanning them more.
Thanks for having me, and I hope to learn a lot on here!
Edit to add: I see after posting it on here that the Naval Review scan is crooked...I uploaded it to my website back in 2011 so all I can say is my scan editing skills have improved since then, lol
