For each of the six issues published in Volume 1 of the Newsletter a poll has been created listing all of the articles contained therein.
Forum members who have made their introductory post (i.e., all except those in the "New Member" status) are asked to identify their favorite article in each issue. Polling for each issue will remain open until Midnight, New York time on September 23rd.
Subsequently, a poll will be created listing the article receiving the most votes in each of the six individual issue polls and members will again be asked to identify their favorite from among those six. (In the event of ties, each will be included in the final poll.)
The article receiving the most votes in that poll will become the Forum's "best article" for 2017 and it will be submitted to APS for inclusion on the APS Articles of Distinction webpage.
[EDIT 9/13: To vote, place a check mark in the box to the left of the preferred article, then simply navigate away from the thread. When you return to the thread you should see a green check mark next to your favored article. If no such mark is present, your vote hasn't been recorded and you will need to repeat the process.]

There have been many high-quality articles making it hard to choose.

I think I voted. You just check the box then leave the page? I couldn't find a 'submit' or 'vote' button.
Wow, that's a darn fine collection of articles. It was very hard to choose a winner for any issue.

Should anyone be wondering if their votes have been recorded, send me a forum message and I'll look into it. I'm able to see who has voted but not which article they have voted for.

I wasn't sure if I had actually voted, so I stopped after doing the first issue. Based on your and Steve's comments, it sounds like I probably did do it OK for the first issue, so I will vote for the rest this weekend.

Beryllium Guy, your vote on Issue 1 was recorded. Checking the box adjacent to the article of your choice and then returning to the board menu is all that needs to be done. Again, if in doubt about your votes being recorded, send me a PM and I'll check on it.

Voting has slowed...if you haven't yet cast your votes you are encouraged to do so (polling closes at Midnight, New York time on September 23rd).
Of the 25 members who have cast ballots thus far, 21 have voted for all six of the issues; the remaining 4 have not recorded votes for one or more of the issues (I can only see if you have voted but not who you voted for).
Because it is difficult to tell if your ballots have been cast, I am posting a listing of the names of the members who have registered votes for each of the six issues.
If you believe you have voted for each of the issues but your name doesn't appear below, send me a private message and I'll tell you which of the six issues still need your vote(s). You may also open the thread for an issue while you are logged in to the forum; if your vote was registered, a green check mark will appear in the box to the left of the article that you selected.

I have stopped dithering about issue No 5 and have finally placed my vote. So all done now.
It was very enjoyable reading through these again and with a bit of luck, I might have absorbed a fair bit of it (fairly unlikely given the acres of grazing pasture I now have in my brain).

I will voting later but just out of interest, I could not find anything about 'not voting for one's own article'. In polls like this it is the norm surely.
This is only a comment as I would never do so out of courtesy for others and I am sure all the members feel the same. I think this point should be included in future polls of this type.
Now I'm off to re-read the rest of the articles. Learning so much from these great writings !!
Thanks all.

I had thought to test whether such a vote would be rejected but decided against it in case it accepted it.

I had thought to test whether such a vote would be rejected but decided against it in case it accepted it. I also had the same thought and will be doing the same as both of you. Thanks for posting about it, though. I feel that it's always better to state these things clearly.

...I could not find anything about 'not voting for one's own article'. In polls like this it is the norm surely... Sadly, the Proboards polling software isn't that sophisticated to enable such discrimination. My advice to all is to just vote your conscience.

Some of you may have noticed that this board is now only accessible when you have logged in to the forum -- a change prompted by another of the Proboards software inadequacies.
I had initially set the board's permissions to allow everyone to view and access the board but had excluded those with the "New Member" status from being able to reply to posts.
Much to my chagrin, the exclusion does not apply to replying to polls and there is no way to exclude those in that status from doing so apart from restricting their access.
One person with New Member status (i.e., had not yet made an introductory thread) cast his or her votes for each of the six issues.
Because I can neither see which articles this member voted for nor change any of the votes, I saw no recourse but to let the votes stand and implement these more restrictive permissions.
I have sent a message to the member asking that he/she make an introduction but have heard nothing back (as is far too often the case with messages sent to New Members).
I apologize for the glitch and will ensure that this won't be repeated in subsequent polling.

I had some trouble with the site crashing, but finally got through and I think I cast my votes for all issues. Steve ( tomiseksj), if for any reason my votes were not received, please let me know, and I will redo them.

Polling closes at Midnight to select the articles which will compete for the distinction of being selected as the newsletter article that will represent our Forum as its 2017 APS Article of Distinction.
If you haven't yet indicated your preferences, please do so before the polls close.
We've only had 24 members vote and three of those didn't indicate their preference in 1 or more of the issues.

The semi-final round of polling has ended and a new poll will be created to select the Forum's 2017 "best article" which will also become Chapter 1591's first APS Article of Distinction. The results of the semi-final polls may be viewed here.
