Hello everyone. I am a new member here and I am looking forward to participating in the various posts. However, most of my posts will be more like......where is this stamp from.....How can I tell the difference between...... and the.....I need help. But I would be happy to help others when I can.
My name is Robert and I collected stamps as a child until about the age of 15 or 16 (1976-1977?). My grandfather took my brother and I to the monthly stamp show in Maple Shade New Jersey almost every month for a couple of years. He also took us to a larger show I think was called SEPAD(?) in Philadelphia. I moved onto baseball cards around 1980 until now. I do still currently collect and sell baseball cards.
I recently went through my old stamp collection and I now have a renewed interest. I think I will pick up where I left off starting with Lithuania. My grandfather had a famous Uncle; a painter and composer from there. His art is depicted on several postage stamps and there are many books about him.
I will also collect US stamps to about 1980. It has always been a dream of both my brother and me to get US stamps #1 and #2. I know they are not extremely expensive but being financially challenged, a daughter in college and a son going in two years, it may be a while before I can get either one........but I know I will one day.
Thank you and Happy Collecting.
Robert

Do reveal who your great-great uncle was and what he achieved and contributed to. This is very intriguing.

His name is Mikalosjus Konstantinas Ciurlionis. I have purchased a few prints, postcards of his work, etc. from ebay for several years. Oh yes, and I do have some Lithuanian stamps of his art and a first day cover. Thanks for your interest, Robert

Welcome to our forum, Robert! I've adjusted your membership status so you can now post in other areas of the forum. Post your stamp identification questions here and try to always include a good quality image of the stamp in question to aid in identification.

Well, here's a start: Mikalosjus Konstantinas CiurlionisWhen I have time I shall have a read of that Wiki article and see where it might lead me. EDIT: Just found this snippet: The asteroid 2420 Čiurlionis is named after him.

Hi to a great forum. I must say that your ID "thepackrat" is most appropriate for a stamp collector. Most would not admit it, but I am also. You may want to collect stamps from all countries concerning your Great-Great-Uncle. Also, there is an APS promotional on TSF for new members to join. While you are browsing the site why not also join the APS. Jerry B
