Can anyone offer a high resolution scan of the horse and rider on this stamp please? Need it clear and precise.

I nicked this from an auction site - hope it's scanned at a high enough resolution for you. Ryan

Cheers Ryan, sadly no. In 1928 a collector called "ARGUS", (Mr. J. Adams) suggested the writing on the Mail Bag, was the smallest engraving in existence. It reads, under loupe, apparently
CANAD PO
A classy artisan, notice how he has used the steam from the Loco, to define the riders head and hat.

I guess I'd describe it as an attempt to make the smallest legible engraving. But not very legible, at that. Here are two different magnifications - something like 60x and 180x, if memory serves. High enough to pick up paper fibres, but I can't read anything. Ryan

It does look like an attempt. I will keep my out for that stamp. It would be nice to see a few different stamps.

Thanks for going to some trouble for us, Ryan. Perhaps only in the early printings. I do not have this stamp as yet.

Some of the early hidden date stamps might be in for that consideration.

I'm afraid my scanner only goes up to 600 ppi so my images aren't as good as Ryan's. But looking at this stamp with my 10x loupe, I have to agree that the saddle reads CANAD PO. Guess they can be forgiven for missing out on that last A.

I have to say, that is what I see, when told what to see...otherwise, not so much...
I'll reserve judgment until someone can say that theirs is definitely an early copy...maybe...

I had a look at two mint copies I have, but couldn't make out anything legible. I tried with my 12x magnifier, then scanned the stamps at 1200 and 2400dpi. My scans look about the same as Ryan's examples.
