Similar to smauggie 's tagged, dull gum, joint line strip in the first post (Scott TD107d), this black, tagged, perf. 9.75 vertical, joint line pair has shiny gum (Scott TD107a).  |

A number of test stamps with blank design predate the one shown here from the 1990s -- the blank coil, perf. 9.75 vertical is on coated paper; it is untagged and has shiny gum (Scott TD122). |

Another recent coil addition to my modest test stamp collection, a purple, perf. 9.75, joint line pair with small perf. holes (Scott TD95; 1959). The stamps of this "framed rectangle" series (Scott TD94 through TD97) were printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.  |

tomiseksj these are perfect, truly undiluted perfect. Maybe they served a printing need, but surely they show nothing so much as a sense of irony/contempt; 'You wanna test stamp, here's your f-in test stamp!' The the ultimate philatelic joke, or cruelty.

Scott notes that TD107b (tagged, pebble-surfaced gum) exists with defacement lines of numerous colors, which vary in number and thickness and which have been known to have been forged. Here are two examples from my collection.   |

Ryan Here is a TD107a or TD107b that was genuinely canceled on a piece of manila folder, but cannot be determined whether it went through the mails. There are no receiving marks or routing marks on the back. The fact that it was addressed to Paul Newman makes it suspect.   |

A group of four PVI test labels from 1995 attached to a glassine envelope. The labels are produced as a self-test of a Postage Validation Imprinter (PVI) from a UNISYS terminal. The 1995 labels are linerless and have a new USPS logo as compared to the earlier PVI labels from 1992.  |

Here is a recent addition to my growing U.S. Test (Dummy) Stamp collection -- a Bureau of Engraving & Printing booklet (Scott TDB32) from 1985. The booklet's cover (Scott BC33C) is the one that was paired with the 22 cent, perf. 10 horizontal, Flag over Capitol Dome stamp (Scott 2116). Inside is a pane of five, untagged, perf. 10 horizontal, dull gum stamps, each measuring 43x130mm (Scott TDP12).  |

Here is one of the 4 panes (TDB9a) from a booklet similar to the one smauggie showed in the previous post. The booklet the pane is from is cataloged as Scott TDB12a (1963-1966). The two booklets are distinguished by the inside front cover: TDB12 reads "Domestic Postage Rates" and TDB12a has an image of the Minute Man and reads BUY/United States/Savings Bonds/HOLD."  |

ohiohawk , I'd like to see a scan of your block -- all I have are coils. Here is a pair of Scott TD112 (1986) -- it is black, untagged, dull gum, perf 9¾ vertical and the design is approximately 19mm wide (unlike the TD107 design which is approx. 19½mm wide).

ohiohawk , I'd like to see a scan of your block -- all I have are coils.... As soon as I can get to the safety deposit box, I will take some pictures with my cell cam (not sure how good it will look) but when I get them taken, I will post them. I do not keep anything close to that here in my home, I trust my security system, but I don't trust others.... |

ohiohawk, very nice, thanks for showing these. I like the miscut coil pair. I still don't have either your B (TD137) or D. Is the die cut in the pane of 18 straight or serpentine? I can't tell from the image if it is TDB90 or TDB91.

Another recent addition to my Test Stamp collection -- an imperf block of 4 gray test stamps for the Nebraska Territorial Centennial issue that was printed by Eureka Specialty Printing (Scott TD100A). I already had a block of 4 of this stamp but the price was so good that I couldn't resist.  |

Here is another block of four test stamps for the Nebraska Territorial Centennial stamp: this one is brown on tan paper and Scott identifies it as TD99a.  |

The latest acquisition for my Test (Dummy) Stamp collection, a carmine, perf. 9¾ vertical coil stamp with the "For Testing Purposes Only" design that appeared in 1970 (Scott TD108). One might ask why I paid just under $29.00 for this space filler (clipped perfs at left). I did so because it was the first one I'd seen being offered on ebay and the 2021 catalog value for a sound copy was $800.00.  |

I purchased a batch of these some years ago, all nicely identified in the listing. When they arrived they were all mixed up. Much later, I found that I had printed out the illustrated listing and can now identify them. They cost about a dollar each. So, TD111 Brown, untagged pair.  TD95 Purple off-center test.  |

I recently added this item to my test stamp collection -- a purchase from the APS Stamp Store and one that taught me an invaluable, yet expensive, lesson. The test booklet with 18 blue, self-adhesive, serpentine die cut 11¼x11 stamps was printed by Ashton-Potter (USA) Ltd in 2009 and is identified in Scott as TBD101 with a catalog value of $7.00. (See the following post for the correct CV.)  What was the invaluable, yet expensive, lesson you ask? I failed to observe the Russian proverb "trust, but verify" that entered American usage in the Reagan era. Rather than checking the catalog, I saw the seller's identification (Scott TBD92) on my want list and felt the sale price of $15.50 was quite reasonable for the stated CV of $110. I know that I could return the item for a refund but I am going to hold on to it as a constant reminder to do my due diligence on all future purchases. |

I really need to slow down...
In the previous post, I told you that the CV of the pane (TBD101) was $7.00 -- $7.00 was the CV for a single stamp.
The CV for the 18 stamp pane (Scott TDB101a) is actually $110.
Apparently, today's invaluable, yet relatively inexpensive, lesson is to take a break to get my head on straight.
