Hi all,
I'm Jon from Manchester, UK. I inherited a collection of stamps from my dad that he started when I was born. I did help him with the collection when I was younger then drifted in and out of collecting for a number of years. I was given the full collection in 2009 and since then have really done nothing with it other than add couple of bags I purchased from my local charity shop. I have now decided, after looking through the albums my dad started to put together and also picking up an injury which has meant that I cannot play rugby for a little while, to look at carrying on the collection.
So, my aim here is really to learn and hopefully find new ways of growing and enjoying my dads collection. I have already picked up some starting information while browsing here and hope to learn even more.
Thanks, Jon.

Hi Jon,
Welcome to our Forum! As soon as I finish this post I'll adjust your membership status so that you will be able to participate in other areas of the forum. The search function is somewhat cumbersome but it may help you find answers to some of your basic questions. Feel free to ask questions if you don't find what you're looking for.
You may have noticed that many of us like to look at images of stamps, either by themselves or on cover or piece so share some of your favorites when you have the time.

Welcome Jon!
Just started here myself and am enjoying showing off some of the postmarks I've been collecting.

I haven't really gone through everything that there is in the collection as yet but one thing that has grabbed my attention is the postmarks. I have come across a couple of very good clear ones and find it intriguing to find out just where some have these stamps have come from.

Thanks for your nice intro post, and welcome to TSF, Jon!
Sorry to hear about your recent injury, but working on the collection you inherited from your Dad seems like a fine way to spend the time and to honour his memory at the same time. My father passed away a few months ago, and I am now taking some time to go through his collection myself.
I have been a member of TSF for just over a year now, and have found new friends, many stamp collecting resources, and answers to any questions I have asked. I hope that you will also enjoy your time with us, Jon.
And as Steve said, we especially like seeing images from members' collections, so we hope that you will show us some of your favourite material, too.
Again, welcome to The Stamp Forum!

I'm still searching through posts to answer my very first (and at the moment, biggest) question:
Where to start?
I think with a little more time and searching I'll answer that question very soon.
As for images, I will be looking to getting, probably quite a lot, of them posted but at the minute I have a defective scanner and the camera on my phone. I'm reluctant to post images taken with my phone as, after reading a few different posts, the image quality is not as good and I want to do the collection justice.

Jon, Welcome to the forum. I am a fairly new me:ber and I can tell you that any question you have will be answered by some one. Or you will be referred to other messages or sites that will help you out. I have yet to post images of my collection. Still working on the technical side of things. Since I became a member I have seen many things that have helped me to get better organized and more productive in getting my collection in order. david

Welcome Jon,
I also inherited a stamp collection last year with almost 0 experience about this hobby but fortunately i had the time to learn and acquire more knowledge into Stamp Collecting after i left my job (last year ;P) and still i lack a great deal of information and insights . Be sure that all experienced members of this Forum will do their best to answer your enquirers and guide you. I've already posted several questions and the replies were always more than efficient and insightful .
Goodluck

Thanks all, I am slowly picking up a few ides and yesterday found an old "album" that I made for myself about age 7 or 8 out of an artists sketch pad so that brought back a few memories there.
