Those are certainly nice examples, ILS. Your #12 has nice clear outer lines, especially around the bottom right corner. I've got a small and very incomplete collection, as you know. I'll show this one, I think interesting. It's a #14 John C. Calhoune. These were printed in England by De La Rue in 1862. A first shipment of stamps was confiscated by the north, and by the time the second shipment arrived in Richmond the postal rate had gone up and there was no longer a need for the 1¢ stamp. So these were never put into circulation. If you find a used copy, be very suspicious. This is not a great example, and I hope to upgrade one day.

How much are confederate stamps worth these days?

Hi Andy. Whatever you'll pay for them I suppose. Mine catalogues (Scott's Specialized 2012) at $110-130, depending if you define it as orange or deep orange. Worth less because mine isn't in great shape. Legitimately used are worth more, though I'm not sure why. I guess more unused stamps survived. ILS's #11 will run from $15 to $75 and #12 $18-125, depending on the shade of blue. There are a number of varieties. Check ebay prices and you'll see how wildly they can vary. And watch out for fakes, that's the big draw back, and I think what keeps a lot of people out of CSA collecting.
My best deal was a #4 Stone 2, which catalogues at $130 (no gum). I got it off BidStart for 11¢, because the dealer thought it was a fake. Admittedly, so did I when I bought it. It was a pleasant surprise.

Hi there Jeff (boy you get up early!) Yes got the stuff. I thought I'd emailed you. Thanks very much, they now enjoy a place of honour in my collection. The fakes and forgeries, except for one page of Springfields and my Dietz emerald green reprint, are in my cinderella book. Here's the Dietz green print from the altered plate. Another case of cross over from postage stamp to cinderella.

I'm glad you could use them. And yes, yes I do get up early! Around 3:00AM every morning...I just can't ever get back to sleep once I'm up.
